Montana State women vs. Weber State

Post by Colter_Nuanez » Sat Feb 16, 2013 3:55 pm

Montana State put together a 13-2 run to grab its first double-digit lead in weeks. Weber closed the half with two straight baskets to enter intermission down 35-28.

During the spurt, MSU moved the ball efficiently and got high-percentage looks by getting post touches. Rachel Semansky had 10 points and six rebounds after being held to four shots in Thursday's loss to Idaho State. Ashley Brumwell hit all four of her field goals and had nine first-half points.

Bobcats were 13-of-29 from the field, but just 1-of-6 from downtown. MSU forced 15 turnovers behind 10 steals, including four from Latisha Adams. WSU shot 11-of-25, but 0-of-4 from 3.

Weber is on a 41-game losing streak. Montana State is trying to hault a 6-game skid.

Wow. I was following the tweets from this game while doing other things and thought they had it well in hand. I stopped following and didn't realize they let Weber go on an 18-2 run and almost blew it.

Might this have been our last win this season? If they don't figure something out it for sure will. This team is one big head case.

I have really struggled to understand why this team has gone on such a run. The team that went 8-2 in the first half of the conference still has to be there at some point, but it's great to see the monkey off of the back, I guess. They'll have 2 weeks before they host the Grizzlies to figure things out on the mental end; I think they can come together and play well enough to do that. At some point, I'm going to have to start pointing some fingers toward Coach Binford and the staff...why is this happening?

I've got a few thoughts on today's game:
-Rachel Semansky was awesome today. I knew she did well, but 28 points and 11 rebounds? Holy cow!
-The rest of the team did some good stuff, and freshman Peyton Ferris played some great minutes. I'd like to see more of Jackie Elliot and Emily Allen on the court...they'll provide some great hustle and energy on the court.
-I think we made only one 3 pointer this afternoon. That still needs to improve.
-At the end, it seemed like the ball was bouncing in every direction but toward the basket. I've got to give some credit to Weber State, but what were we doing there?

As for playing in Shroyer, it's ok for a game once in a while, but I really don't want the women's basketball team to play all of their games in there. I know Coach Binford likes the idea, but the Fieldhouse is still a better venue for basketball. Shroyer doesn't feel like a Division 1 basketball venue at all.

And of course, the best thing to come out of today is that the CATS WIN!!!

GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan! :) =D^ \:D/

I was at the game today and I think there are some good high school teams that could beat Weber State. In fact, after watching the undefeated Townsend Bulldogs win their tournament this evening, I'm not sure they would not defeat Weber. Townsend has some girls who can flat out shoot the ball.

Here's what I simply don't understand. Why does a D-1 school sign players who cannot shoot? If I was recruiting, I would simply look at your FG% and FT% and if you could not shoot the basketball and make buckets, I would not have you on the team. Many shots that I saw Weber put up today were so horrendous I had to rub my eyes to believe them. Talk about bricks! No wonder they've lost 45 in a row (at least that's what the radio announcer said on our way home). The record is supposedly 58 in a row and Weber might break it.

So................ not so long ago we defeated Weber by over 30 at their place. Today we had to barely hang on in our own gym to win by a bucket or two. I have no idea what happened. However, Weber didn't pay attention. If they had double-teamed Rachel, Weber would've won the game I think.

I'm afraid that we saw our last victory today for this season. My hat is off though to the fans who continue support the Lady Cats, and especially to the band which continues to do an outstanding job.

I was really counting on the women's team to help me forget about the men's annual freefall, but this season...not so much. I can hardly believe that we just barely beat a team that had lost 41 straight, at home no less, and after having destroyed them on the road earlier this season. It doesn't even seem possible that things could change that drastically during the course of a season. The women's collapse has been even more severe than the men's this year, and that's saying something. Will either team win a game the rest of the season? After the women's performance against WSU, and the men's performance against USD yesterday, it seems unlikely.
