2010-11 Big Sky Conference Coaches’ Poll
1. Montana (5 first-place votes) ... 61
2. Eastern Washington (2) ... 53
3. Portland State (1) ... 52
4. Montana State (1) ... 48
5. Idaho State ... 26
Sacramento State ... 26
7. Northern Arizona ... 25
8. Northern Colorado ... 18
9. Weber State ... 15
2010-11 Big Sky Conference Media Poll
1. Montana (12) ... 171
2. Eastern Washington (6) ... 159
3. Portland State ... 150
4. Montana State ... 132
5. Sacramento State (3) ... 102
6. Idaho State ... 84
7. Northern Arizona ... 66
8. Northern Colorado ... 48
9. Weber State ... 33
Man, it's odd to see Weber at the bottom of both of those polls, and ISU in the lower half.
We're all here 'cause we ain't all there.

I find the number of first place votes in both polls pretty interesting...

The number of first place votes or the teams receiving first place votes?
If the former, on the coaches poll there's obviously going to be 9 1st place votes cuz there's 9 teams in the Big Sky.
In terms of the media, like most of these polls there is not necessarily a designated individual from each school market area given a vote, so it's harder to figure out how many voters there's going to be other than you would assume it stays pretty static year to year. Given it's the Big Sky Conference, it has to be newspaper people voting in this for the most part.

My guess would be, and what I find odd/interesting, is the 3 first place votes going to Sac in the media poll. Given their point total that means that aside from the 3 voters putting them first the other 18 voters on average had them in 6th place. Pretty big and glaring disparity. Not that polls, especially conference polls like this, mean anything.

My guess is that there are three members of the media from California and/or the Sacramento area who took a break from covering the Pac 10 and honestly don't know anything about the Big Sky Conference so just voted for Sac State as the only team they had heard anything about.

As a voting member, I blogged about just that
http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ap ... ts/?p=6851. It's odd, and honestly stupid, that three media members - whomever they were - voted Sac State in first. I have my reasons, and most of them begin with their best player and top scorer from last season having graduated. I take my job seriously, so when polls get skewed like this - meaningless or not (yes, we scribes don't put too much stock in it, either) - it bugs me. I might be hypocritical with my little rant, but I have enough temerity to make sure I research it out and have an informed opinion. Also, for a look at the current 2010-11 team after the exhibition season ended Saturday, click here
http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ap ... ts/?p=6988. (yeah, I've always got something to sell.)

Sorry, I forgot I posted in this thread. And I should have clarified, I meant the first-place voting distribution among teams in both polls (Sac getting 0 and then 3, for example).
