Cooper - Draft

Post by iaafan » Tue Apr 05, 2005 2:11 pm

I eyed a 2005 Draft preview mag (Sporting News, maybe) and saw that Roger Cooper is rated the No. 12 OLB and is projected as a 4th of 5th round pick. TSN also had a 7-round mock draft, but I'm too cheap to go look up who they had taking Cooper.

Also, saw Roos, Ochs, Green, Amey, a NAU rec'r, and Procter in there. Roos was the only one other than Cooper that had a bio. The rest just had where they rated. Green was around No. 10 at fullback, but that position doesn't get drafted often.

Great news for Coop. He is going to be fun to watch in the league.

It is great for the Cats to get another one in the league too. The more we put in the NFL, shows not only the level of players we have, but also helps recruiting.

According to TSN Cooper would be pick #156 and go to Buffalo. Roos would be pick #204 and go to Pittsburgh. For whatever that's worth. Not the TSN Insider sign-up fee.

Jordan Beck is rated No. 7 at LB by Gil Brandt. Check the verticality. It was the best of Brandt's top 16.

7. Jordan Beck, Cal Poly-SLO (6-2 3/8, 233)
Beck had a complete workout at the combine. He ran his 40s in 4.60 and 4.61. He had a 41-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-6 broad jump, a 4.10 short shuttle, an 11.25 long shuttle, a 7.11 three-cone drill and 25 strength reps. He then ran a 4.4 at the campus workout, but his weight was not recorded then. In high school, Beck was a wide receiver and defensive back. He then went on to Cal Poly-SLO and played as a true freshman, earning All-America honors in Division I-AA in 2001 and has started the past three years. He had four interceptions in 2004 and returned two for touchdowns. Why didn't Beck go to a Division I-A school coming out of high school? I don't know why, but he has turned into a very productive player who changed positions this past season. He wound up having 135 tackles, including 19 tackles for a loss despite lining up five yards past the line of scrimmage. Some people think he can be a safety, others consider him a very good special-teams player.
