Binford Gets to Commits

Post by mslacat » Wed Sep 23, 2009 12:45 pm

This is new news to us but not necessarily all that new news.

I have heard that Tricia Binfords Montana State basketball team has received to commits from a pair of Aussies for the 2010-11 season. The two players are Kate Webb and Emily Allen and both are from the Brisbane (City) Queensland (state) area of Australia, and have an extensive background in the regional and national basketball programs. They also have been teammate on quite a few of these teams/programs and will bring some instant Chemistry. After talking with some Aussie basketball officiatoes here is my take on these two players.

Kate Webb is a 5-6 point guard, who is a floor general. She has deep 3 point range, and can also drive the to basket. She also has had a great deal of experience playing international ball and playing against much older players. She has the potential to contribute as a true freshman.

Emily Allen is a 6-0 combo forward who can play the 2, 3 or 4 position. She has great speed and ball handling skills and finishes well at the basket. Her shot does need to develop a little but knows how to score and is a very good rebounder. I had one source tell me that they thought she could make an immediate on the Bobcat program, but my other source agrees that she has a huge potential but may need to get physically stronger to reach that potential.

Girls were part of the 2009 Under-18 South girl’s state team that played at the Australian National Championships.
Webb averaged 9.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Allen averaged 6.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.8 apg and 2.1 spg in the same tournament.
Both played in the 2008 Pacific School Games, and Webb played as a 16-year old on a junior team touring U.S. colleges. Started four games; averaged 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists per game and started four games, scoring 14 points vs. the University of Idaho and 13 points vs. San Diego State University.
