New woman's basketball coach: Male or Female

Post by mslacat » Mon Mar 07, 2005 1:24 pm

I guess with the womens season over the issue at hand is who should be the New coach. The current staff will get a stab at the possition, but I hear that MSU will go out for a national search. The one question that always comes up when you look to hire a new womans's coach always revolve around female preference and should it be applied to to the selection proccess. What is the opinion of this community?

BTW I would reall really be interested in a female athletes possition on this topic!! hint hint.

Higher the suspended Fresno coach she's hot. Plus, she would carry on the cat tradition with the womens BB program.

Whoever is best qualified....who cares if its a male or female coach!

To be quite honest with you, I think two coaches from the Frontier conference ought to be considered....Nelson at Carroll and Engellant at Western.

When Shannon Cate was a player @ UM she lived in the same Building as a of a friend of mine. I was over for a BBQ and she came running into the yard and spooked his dog (a 95 lb Lab). The dog Barked! Shannon , in shorts , leaped / hurdled the picket fence instantly. THAT WAS SEXY . My wife looked at me and our friend and just said would the two of you put your tougns back in your mouth!! We were a tad bit obviuos!

I do not think Cate is ready to leave Missoula!!
Whittaker has the Montana job locked up if and when Selvig retires, but who knows when that will be!

I would agree completely with this statement if it was also applied to men's program coaching positions. It does not, though, so I think it is important to a least skew the search towards women when a women's program position is open.

Until we start seeing a bunch of qualified women getting jobs coaching men's teams, we can't use the simple "pick the most qualified" statement as there is an inherent bias built into the whole coaching profession right now against women.

Women are denied access to Men's coaching position with-out a doubt, simply because of
there sex. It is called institutional Sexism. Nobody puts on the advertisement
"no-women" allowed but it is simply accepted that they will not be a candidate. When
the Griz men's team job became available twice the last few years Robins Selvigs name
came up both times. In the first case it was mentioned enough Selvig told the Booster
club he was not interested in the Mens job. No one even thought of mentioning Annette
Whitaker's Name. What if Durhan retired tomorrow and Fields announced Karyn
Ridway was the new coach? A lot of people like her for the woman's coach, but all hell
would have to be paid if she was made Mens coach. Name one woman that you would
find acceptable as the Bobcat Mens coach!

The thing is for a woman, there opportunities to coach are systematically limited by OUR
society thinking. There are many wonderful women coaches out their who may never get
the chance to coach simply because they are denied the opportunity to compete for 1/2
the Jobs on the market. Don't our daughters and wives deserve a more fair opportunity to
chase their dream job?

Didn't she get fired by the owner under some really strange circumstances? I remember there being some big controversy, but I can't remember the details.

She got canned during a game.

"Hey, B$tch you're done, get out now" may have been the wording.

Owner was a women so it was ok.

Since this is just an opinion poll, my opinion is that women should head women's programs. Earlier posts mentioned hot coaches; used to complain when my other half "made" me go watch the gym Dawgs in Athens and several of the men commented they went mostly to see what Suzzane was going to be wearing that particular night

Hiring Shannon would alleviate one anomaly... we could get Brian Schweyen back where he belongs... the only thing we would need is a track opening!
