Someone needs to find a way to do a video mix of Talons interception to Chariots of Fire.

Updated from northern Colorado.

-taco moving up the career receiving TD list
-Myles into the career top 10 scoring
-Talon “the touchdown maker” Marsh, top 3 longest INT return at 90 yards!

Such an awesome day, go cats!

Not sure if it'll be changed in the official stats, but the Marsh INT return definitely wasn't 90 yards. The TV broadcast doesn't give a clear view of where he catches the ball but the DL guys are all well ahead of the 10 yard line.

Yes, ESPN incorrectly listed it as 90, other outlets say 80. Still a top 10 effort.

Reminiscent of Mr. Minter!

It was one to be remembered for years and years to come!

Here are some things that can be seen on the broadcast video.

The line of scrimmage was the 14.
Marsh's pass rush had pushed his man back and he was at the 21 when the QB let the pass go.
Salano jumped from near the hash mark of the 17 and deflected the ball back toward the 20.
Marsh had no time to move far from the 20 to catch the ball and away he went.

If you're looking for someone with a little authority, I'm your man. I have as little as anyone!

From MSU Record Book online, 80+ yard interception returns are:

100 yards - Rob Pouliot vs Boise State (1988)
97 yards - Joe Roberts vs Rhode Island (1984)
90 - Austin DeFrate vs Nebraska (1930)
89 - Mike McLeod vs Idaho State (1979)
82 - Jim McLeod vs Montana (1959)
80 - Sam Moore vs St Ambrose (1958, not a TD)
80 - Sean Hill vs EWU (1992)

Is that a father/son duo on the list? Pretty cool if so.
The interesting thing about Pouliot’s TD is that he wasn’t supposed to be the starter that day, he was filling in for an injured player.

Yes, Jim, Pat, and Mike McLeod are all related.

I will change it to whatever. Maybe let’s give it a day or so and see what’s confirmed.

Note- taco has a little over 200 yards to go before he owns the big sky record for career punt return yards…

Current record: 1,441 career punt return yards, Levander Segars, Montana 2001-04

Junior Bergen with 8, which is also the FCS record.

Best view of the Thick Six. Looks to be on the 20 yard line to me, so 80 yard return.

I’m curious why espn would have it as 90 yards? Just a typo/mistake? Do they count it from the point of where it was originally tipped (which was further down field from where he caught it)? I dunno…

A lot of stats were messed up or not available. UNC had issue and it was mentioned on radio and TV.

Yeah, I felt bad for their SID. The Sidearm program got messed up. She was still there trying to fix it when I left about 1.5 hours after the game. Plus everyone, including me, kept asking “how long was the interception return?” about 100 times. We guessed 86 from the replay we had which wasn’t totally clear.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I was there when Pouliot returned that pick too. Still crazy that we go 4-7 that year and two of the wins are against Boise and Reno who go IA less than a decade later, and we lose to DII Mesa State. Who is still DII.
