I agree on Talmage, he is good. He gets great position on his defenders, has good hands, though has dropped a couple he should have had.
But I must dissagree that we have fast WR grizlaw. We don't. We don't have anybody even close to as fast as JH or LV, or Hancock for that matter. Utterback and Dlouhy are both faster in a straight line than nearly all of our WRs. Pretty good for an LB and a DE, but not good for out WRs.
Now if you want to talk shifty, we seem to have that in Troxel and Shulte. And big we do have, but fast, we don't. I'm 99% sure that in a straight line Dwyer is the fastest, and I'd be surprised if he could break into the 4.5's on a consistant basis.
I don't know about this transfer from Western, it seems he has some wheels, but a 10 cent head by most accounts.
I'm not saying our WR won't be good, but they won't be blowing by corners like JH could do.

JahGriz: When the CB bites on the play action to Lex (or gets caught looking into the backfield) we'll see lots of CB get blown away. Then again after Lex runs over the CB a few times he may just decide to run all the way down the field pretending to cover the Wideout.

Never mistake activity for accomplishment.

Now this is starting to look more like e-griz with our current posters. When are you guys going to bring up “Griz Envy”, “East Coast Bias” and of course the “Griz Joining the WAC”?

True jagur, if our play calling selection allows for it.
Keep in mind, I'm talking straight ahead speed. I'd take a 4.7 WR who can create separation thru good route running, getting position, and generally having good football instincts over a 4.4 kid who has only speed to create separation, and not much in the way of football instincts, nearly every time.
What I do like about our WR's is we've got some big guys who will create matchup problems, and our littler guys, though lacking in JH type speed, are tough, smart, and could and will cause problems after they catch the ball. They won't be easy to bring down.
But back on the topic, why don't more people think PSU will be a top team. They were there last year, and have improved their O skilled guys in a pretty big way. And you want to talk fast, that burner WR they had last year is back, along with Jordan Carey, and Nick Costa.

Who does PSU have in their backfield this year? Fuqua killed us last year, but he graduated, didn't he?
EDIT: I forgot to add that I sure hope the Griz move to the WAC soon, so we can avoid that darn East Coast bias and create even more Griz Envy among Cat fans.
How was that?

I actually think NAU was a better team last year than their record indicated. The blowout loss to the Cats hurt them a lot mentally and they never looked the same after that, but early in the year they looked tough (played Arizona tough, and dominated all their early conference opponents except EWU). Granted, they were weaker than UM-MSU-EWU, but they weren't as far off as it appeared.

Lord, I don't know what's worse: my agreeing with a Fizzlie or a lawyer on any point, but a Fizzlie lawyer
Guess you probably agree that NAU will probably bounce back and EWU may be as over hyped as they're rebuilding virtually their entire OL and most of their defense? They (EWU) did graduate ten all-conference performers.

I didn't mean to say that as the reason the Cats were lower than I would have put them. I can see why you took it that way, I shouldn't have lumped that into the same sentence.ralph wrote:Big Sky Bias = Anyone East of Big Sky schools are "east-coasters" who don't know anything about the Big Sky.CelticCat wrote:... Most of the voters on the AGS poll are east-coasters, and the simple fact is they don't know a ton about our teams ...
What I was trying to say is yes, a majority of the posters on AGS are fans of schools like Colgate, UMass, W&M, Furman, what have you. It's more of a "we aren't very well represented" kind of thing, nothing to do with any sort of bias or lack of knowledge.
The fact is it is pretty hard to find info on IAA teams. You can't just log on to ESPN and read a bunch of analysis and predictions from so called experts. You have to spend hours and hours researching it yourself, visiting message boards, and so on. It wasn't a slam on fans of the eastern teams, just stating my belief that not too many people know half as much about other conferences as they do about their own in IAA.
I apologize for sounding presumptuous.

WOW!
And you griz fans say WE'RE touchy?
You fellas (grizlaw, crotch(which is where your head is buried, btw)) don't really READ anything, do you?
I admitted MANY TIMES that the current crop of Griz MAY end up being good. The point I'm so miserably failing to make, obviously, is that YOU DON'T KNOW AND THAT YOU ALL SIMPLY ASSUME THEY WILL BE GREAT BECAUSE THEY PLAY FOR THE ALMIGHTY GRIZ.
The difference I'm trying to highlight to you griz-colored-glasses folk is that YOU JUST DON'T REALLY KNOW and that your assumptions are based on little more than hope and the past history of your program. I'm not blaming you for that; I'm sure I'd be in a similar frame of mind if I were a griz fan. I'm simply pointing out that for once, you CANNOT BE SURE what you're going to have. To automatically predict that you'll have "a number of studs" is based on NOTHING but speculation, assumption, and yes, unfortunately, arrogance.
The Cats, on the other hand, pretty much know the LEAST we can expect out of Lulay, Domenick, Gatewood, Guinn and a number of other players. So we ARE expecting that our offense will be pretty damn good because we have 13 of our top 15 offensive players back from an offense that was very good by the end of last season. It's no different than you griz fans being high on your D because most of them are back.
Please note: I HAVE NOT PREDICTED that the 2005 Grizzly offense will be bad or even mediocre. I've simply raised the fact that based on their individual performances & experience, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW GOOD OR BAD THEY'RE GOING TO BE and how BLINDED a number of you griz fans are by the past and the assumptions you make based on that alone.

Can't see the Fizzlie mystique helping this year. They won too many games they should have lost last year, the conference is stronger top to bottom this year, and we get to witness turning away 20 years of in your face crap. Based on their reputation, I've put them at fourth but don't see the "miracle" finishes this year. May be even worse than fourth.

I think it matters what kind of job and how much it pays.
