The consensus is that the plays are widely known anyway. Then why does Coach Vigen hold closed practices?
Opponents already have these plays on film and broken them down (even though its digital now), when a new season starts we have different personnel so there are adjustments due to those differences, weekly game plans are adjusted due to specific opponents personnel and schemes. No one want to give out that game plan right before a game, make them adjust in the game.

Random addition, it always interests me when modern technology still uses terms referring to old technology: ie film, and tape now refers to digital video, roll down your window is still used despite vehicles not having hand crank windows for over 30 years. :-k
Hey now, I have a base model 2007 Ram 2500 with manual EVERYTHING - except it does have cruise - and I love it! It's beneficial having a Millennial Anti-Theft device (6-speed manual transmission).

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

So with your explanation, in his illustration of the RPO, the assignments and player reads are already documented by our opposition. Based in your explanation, our opponent is simply just making adjustments for the new personnel each year. Given that House’s video features both Mellot and Chambers, the Alaskan Assassin, our returning O-line, the Sunburst Superman and our returning WR’s, I guess House filled in those blanks for our opposition this season as well.

And of course teams that haven’t played us before, like in the playoffs, or have new coaching staffs, just call up Bobby in Missoula and ask for their most recent breakdown of the MSU offense. That all seems so simple!! You guys have this thing all figured out!

Now I am just trying to figure what coaches do with all those late night prep sessions. Maybe they are just converting from VHS to digital so they can use it for next year.
In general, most coaches have the knowledge of what the other teams run. Having that knowledge doesn’t mean they can execute it though. There’s a lot of things to key off of, and there are decisions made in the moment. Let’s just think logically here. If there was a huge advantage to knowing this, would coaches be offering it up for everybody to see? Either you think Housewright is a complete idiot as a coach, or you’re wrong. Those are your options.

I agree with what you are saying about coaches knowing the general “big picture” of what opponent are running.
In the 80’s, I knew the QB option would result in the QB pitching or the QB keeping. I knew the QB would read what the DE was doing. And no question execution with key personnel is how you win games (unless the game plan is wrong).

As you know the RPO has all kinds of tendencies, reads and assignments. Every coordinator runs it a little different. Some of House’s videos make it easier for opponents to prepare. If I am Utah Tech or Stetson that has never played MSU before, I guarantee that this helps them prepare. Maybe 4 hours of work now become 15 minutes because the analysis for the RPO has already been completed by the MSU OC. I am the guy responsible for preparing for MSU’s offense, I may go from feeling like “I might be prepared” to feeling like an “expert” on the MSU offense being that MSU OC just broke it down for me.

I know you don’t like me, but the point is not that complicated. Anytime you make it easier for an opponent to prepare for you, isn’t that of concern?

You’re over-complicating it. These guys live and breathe football. They know what offense we run. They’re not missing the knowledge part, it’s the execution part that’s hard.

MSU’s offense is not a complicated offense. There are just multiple reads. That’s why it’s hard to stop, because it has the illusion of complexity. Looks complicated because you can run a lot of plays out of the same formation. Depending on what the defense is doing, things can change. It’s like the triple option. Everybody knew what you were doing, but it’s still hard to defend when it’s ran right. Execution is the key point, not knowledge. MSU rightfully believes they can out-execute and out-talent teams.

The only way one can believe this makes it easier for opponents is if one thinks the opposing coaches learned about football last week. It isn’t rocket science what they’re doing. Housewright didn’t invent the offense.

I love this off-season stuff, by the time something derails, there is other stuff to talk about, even if I do give away my travel plans to opposing coaches.

Honest question… does anyone think opposing coaches will actually watch these?

I would think at most some grad assistants might. I don't think these videos are for actual coaches (positional or higher). Those guys have enough experience that they know what they're doing (debatable, I know) and aren't going to spend their time watching an opposing coach explain something they think they already know.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Having a hard time getting my mind wrapped around the fact one of these teams is going to the playoffs.

Nice to see SeaBass as our representative there. Think he was injured down the stretch last hear, but he is a guy who screams "NFL" if he can keep developing.

Love that ESPN used some rendering for Eastern's field, making the stadium look way nicer than it is

Tommy looks like he's ready to take on some linebackers this season!

Who's next to Chambers, looking super pale and trying to get every last muscle to pop?

Judging by his low center of gravity, I would guess Lane Sumner.
