If Vigen chooses to go, that is most certainly ok. He and Leon have taken this program to the next level in the last 5 years. We received some big gift, we don't know exactly what that entails, but we probably owe it to Vigen and Costello's success in securing that gift. Along with the stadium upgrades in the next few years to increase our revenue and atmosphere, we have a football program to be proud of, and Vigen built it to be larger than himself. He instills his teams to play for each other, and for the logo. For the players that stay after this year is over, their mindset will not change when he is gone. We have the facilities, winning tradition, in state recruiting, and coaching tree to help ensure we will continue to have success into the future, even with massive turnover. I only see NDSU, SDSU, and MSU at the same level at the top of the pack as far as being able to reload every year and continue to succeed. Almost every year Vigen has been here, we have had new coaches, and new players. Every year, we all moan and groan about teams coming and stealing our young coaches and top players from our team. Last season, they came and took more than a handful of our starters from us, took half of our coaches, and Tommy Mellott graduated along with an experienced senior class. Alot of us thought it would be near impossible to replace all of that... Now look at us, we recovered quite nicely. In fact, Vigen has even said this years team might be better than last years! The MSU football program is here to stay, and I know Leon will be able to find the right replacement for Vigen. I think Vigen knows that as well. He will be missed dearly by the fanbase and players. However, what he and his teams have built are here to stay, regardless of what goes down the last few weeks of the season and into the portal.

Since he's almost definitely leaving before 12/31 I'd rather he just get this job now (by Sunday) so the team can regroup ahead of the first playoff game and whoever is staying from the coaching staff can work on keeping as many guys as possible and securing our hs signees. If he doesn't get OSU he's just going to keep trying until the cycle is over. Rip the bandaid off.

Imo he always has been, Vigen and/or Wilcox were the insurance in case Sheppard didn't interview well. They need excitement and energy around that program as they try to rebuild it. Vigen is an elite coach but he's pretty staid, pretty measured, with his public facing demeanor. Intense AF within the team but not so much outwardly.
Disclaimer: that's me just making an informed guess, likely with a little dose of hopium thrown in, but it makes good sense.

MSU has a winning, player run program. Losing/average teams looking for direction are sometimes setback by losing a head coach. NDSU (numerous times) and SDSU (this year) are good examples of what you should expect at MSU. And, yes, I know SDSU is struggling but that's only because of the huge drop from Mason to Henry at QB. With Mason they're probably at least 10-2 and at least a top 4 seed.

Gosh I hope Mason gets healthy and back in there so we can show this isn’t the case.

I will say Ryan has very little to no OSU contacts. He stepped in when our normal beat writer had some health issues. He usually cover the ducks! He is much better than our normal guy!

What does success look like at OSU? It doesn’t appear that they have the NIL money to really chase the CFP. So, is consistently going 8-4 a success at OSU? I truly don’t know.

I think getting into a bowl game vs a Big 10/12 team and winning would be considered a huge success to start. Something like the Las Vegas Bowl.

Also, most likely the PAC12 champ is going to get an AQ in the CFP. Is OSU positioned well for that considering the new landscape of the PAC12?

I’ve heard this before. But the PAC wasn’t in last years CFP and none of the PAC is slated to be in this years.

That doesn't really explain the sight seeing tour on the way home. If it was to sign papers, which can be done electronically anyway, why detour to Pendelton, Aurora then Eugene? If the plane went straight from BZN to EUG, they'd be home around 1:30 PST. Instead, they're tooling around and getting to Eugene at 4.
