It seems like I am in the minority, but I don’t particularly like listening to Ty. I don’t think he provides much insight or analysis.

I learned a lot from his discussion about the TD pass to White on the wheel route.

Re: Ty Gregorakisms
I think Ty is absolutely great only until he tries way too hard to get his Gregorakisms in there. Once it feels forced, it gets awkward and I think expressions of viewers can change from smiles to eye rolls pretty quick. Which is maybe the goal, haha. Just needs to master the art of working them into his color and insight a little smoother. He is very uniquely qualified for his role. Deep ties to both Montana schools, vast football knowledge, good TV voice and presence, sense of humor, etc. He brings a ton to the table. But I also recognize that broadcasting isn’t his full time career. But when he starts talking about formation, play designs, scheming, spacing, etc, there’s very few out there better than him. We are lucky to have him.

You hit the thoughts I had. The other thing I like…he isn’t a “homer”….he is pretty honest and brutal on the Cats when they screw up…as well as positive when they are playing great. Some other announcers can’t acknowledge the downside performances on their team.tdub wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 7:43 amI think Ty is absolutely great only until he tries way too hard to get his Gregorakisms in there. He has a tendency to play the Ty Gregorak character rather than just be Ty Gregorak but as long as he doesn't go to the well too often he's great.tdub wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 7:43 amI think Ty is absolutely great only until he tries way too hard to get his Gregorakisms in there. Re: Ty Gregorakisms
I agree whole heartedly with the previous 4 posters, with their compliments and criticisms of Gregorak.
A few examples from last night of what I like from him: How he was critical of Gray on pass coverage on one play but then also gave him credit on a following play when Gray quickly tripped up the ball carrier. On the almost TD run that Lamson had in the 4th he explained where the play was designed to go and that Lamson went differently because of the great blocking by Schlepp. There are dozens more examples.
I like that when a play works well or player performs well, he gives them credit regardless of which team.
Ty, if you're reading this thread, why? but take the compliments deeply and do give the criticisms some thought.

He's also intimately familiar with the past 20+ years of Big Sky history - teams, traditions, venues, coaches, players, having coached for/with/against most of them... So when he talks about Ed Lamb turning UNC around, Paul Wulff building something at CPSLO, and Brian Wright developing NAU into a perennial tough out, he gets what they're trying to do, what the path to success looks like, and most of all, he knows what he's talking about. Pair that with his decades of football knowledge and I challenge anyone to find a color commentator on any BSC ESPN+ broadcast with a similar level of experience/expertise.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 9:01 amYou hit the thoughts I had. Does he force things at times trying to add in too many zingers? Perhaps. But we as fans could do FAR worse.
The on-air talent for Bobcat games is as good or better than any G5 school broadcast, and I'd argue on part with many P5 broadcasts. This includes radio; we are so spoiled by Keaton Gillogly's voice talents. If MSU can manage to keep him around for a couple decades- he's still got a long career ahead of him - he'll be the best to have ever done it for MSU. This coming from a guy who grew up listening to Dean Alexander on football Saturdays in the fall (and MBB in the winter/spring). Dean was my window into Bobcat men's athletics. Gillogly is better.
Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

100%. Ty just doesn’t have polished professionalism of big time color guys, which is also what makes him so great. His insight is a little more raw and on-point.grizzh8r wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 12:33 pmHe's also intimately familiar with the past 20+ years of Big Sky history - teams, traditions, venues, coaches, players, having coached for/with/against most of them... We listened to the game yesterday and Leo had a hall of fame level one liner regarding getting a jersey on and off a teammate being like a wild barn cat. I obviously butchered it but it had us rolling.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 3:46 pmLeo Davis keeps getting better as well and probably has way more zingers than Tygrizzh8r wrote: ↑Sun Oct 26, 2025 12:33 pmHe's also intimately familiar with the past 20+ years of Big Sky history - teams, traditions, venues, coaches, players, having coached for/with/against most of them... Italian stallion.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.
