I remember the 2014 playoff game in Bozeman vs SDSU was played in a blizzard as well. Probably wasn't as cold as this will be, though.
Easiest the snowiest game I have ever been to. It snowed probably 8-10 inches during the game. We drove home to Billings after that game, craziness.

I played in that game and it was if I remember correct 5 degrees at kickoff. The nuts thing about is Friday was something like 45 degrees and sunny. Then that storm blew in and man that was a cold game. Only played on the punt team. Only punted one time that game and it was in the 4th quarter.

I think the game should be played in Brookings and isn't some record weather event in the north for a football game. You have an outdoor stadium it is what it is. It will make for an even playing field in every way. Attendance will be down but again that is part of football in the north.

Just out of curiosity, given the forecast is getting worse with more rain and snow….I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use The Fargo Dome, or bump the game back a few days. I can’t imagine what a mess the field/stands will be following freezing rain/snow/sudden drop in temperature. I know we have the “special” cleats to handle any conditions, but it’s just seems like pulling off a football game in these conditions might not be the best idea. I mean, I do like the idea of this side of the bracket being decided on a frozen field in South Dakota, but they haven’t sold many tickets and they might actually get more jackrabbit butts in seats by moving it indoors.
I went to a Gris semifinal game in the 1990s against either Troy State or SFA in the Dickenson years where it was about -15 with the wind chill and they won 70-7. Play the game and best team wins. Our guys are practicing all this week in cold conditions. Move the game? What?!

According to official game record on the msu website, it was 1 degree at kickoff in the 2014 game.

Here is a SDSU campus webcam. My phone said they've received 5.7" in the past 24hrs with another 4.2" expected in the next 24hrs. Honestly, it looks like warm and wet snow mixed with rain and doesn't look terrible. I'm sure things will ice up overnight.

Yes, they're getting a bunch of precip and then the deep freeze is coming.

I grew up in central Montana. Lordy, lordy how I hate the wind! Cat/gris this year was awesome because why? No wind. I wasn't uncomfortably cold for one minute at that game. Hope they can play the game outdoors like the football gods intended it to be played but I won't miss sitting in the wind to watch them play. Where I live now people complain about a 20 mph wind for days and a 40 mph wind takes down trees and power poles. I do believe I have been sissified.

Gee why remember that game. Zenner ran around, through and over us for 250 yards or so!! He had a helluva game.

Yep I Remember it being 2 degrees on my car when I got out to walk in. And official stat sheet lists it as 1 degree. The TV had it at 21 at start of game but that was not right.

Here enjoy it again.

Thank you for the YouTube link. Fantastic to watch that again, and hear the names of a lot of great Bobcats. On both offense and defense the Jackrabbits look to have found their footing a bit better.

The northernmost field is in Barrow Alaska and it is adjacent to the Bering Sea because it is the only flat spot around due to permafrost. The poor guys started a tradition that if they won they had to strip down and run out into the Sea and take a dip. Odd but I think they led the state in fumbles every year.

There will be heaters on both sidelines. There have been for every other cold weather game. Occasionally each side will also have a storage container like thing on the sidelines as well. Not exactly sure what for. I only see them when it is nasty cold. Whether it is used for heat or a wind break or what, not sure.

If you are driving, be careful. I realized when I moved to the flat side of the state that it is not the amount of snow that is dangerous around here, it is the wind. There is absolutely NOTHING to stop it. A few inches of light snow and 20 mph wind and you won't be able to see your hand in front of your face. Some areas of the state are calling for 1-2 feet of snow and 50 mph winds. Crazy amounts of ice could hit the south east part of the state if you are driving up from I-90 to I-29. I assume the ice will be cleared by Saturday, but downed power lines and loss of electricity could impact Sioux Falls and surrounding areas.
Seriously, why not postpone a week?
Do you think more fans would show up on Christmas Eve?
 Yeah well there’s that. I probably wasn’t thinking about Christmas Eve but give it a day or few to clear out. I’m more concerned about travel than the cold! Safety first… but hey if the roads are clear play it!

Well I-94 is closed from Dickinson to Fargo, so hope that gets cleared in the next day or so. My daughter lives south of Fargo and is on day 2 of no school and a bunch of snow.

South Dakota road report. It's Wednesday, so things will likely improve some, but currently, most roads in the west half of the state are closed.

The storm was originally suppose to end Wednesday (today), but now forecasts are pushing it out till Thursday/early Friday. Hope travel is safe for everyone.

If they were going to move the game indoors, they would move it to Vermillion which is the home of USD and they have a dome. Plus, it’s only 120 miles from Brookings and a horse apiece from Sioux Falls.
This is what I was thinking

511 ND currently shows I-94 is open. Do you have any additional updates? Thank You!
