we can agree and disagree forever. but i promise that he hammers these things in practice because i have attended 4 already this year. whatever though. i see your point and you see some of mine. bottom line is this team needs to be better.BozoneCat wrote:Well, I think it is becoming more apparent that last year's team was only able to win games because the Big Sky was so pathetically weak. I believe the conference RPI was like 30 (out of 31) last year, and I believe that the conference RPI so far this year is about 17. We all complained before the season started about how weak our schedule is - and now we can't even win these games that should be easy!whitetrashgriz wrote:i agree with some of what you are saying. but here's where it doesn't make sense to me. this years team and last years team are the same! so, lets pretend that we dont know how the season ended last year with a loss to the griz. you couldn't find very many people that we unhappy with the cats at the end of the regular season. so, by your logic, at that point mick did a great job recruiting. so this year, with the same kids, i am supposed to believe that the blame lies squarely on mick because he should have seen the future, and predicted that his once great-recruits would not play the same caliber ball 2 years straight? i just dont buy it. personally, i love mick. but i understand where you guys are coming from saying that we have played mediocre ball for over a decade. and i agree. and as much as i like the guy, maybe a change would be better for the program. but no one is ever going to convince me that when a team is playing great, it's always the coaching, and when they are bad, it's always the coaching. take coach k at UM. while i know that he is a great coach, there is no denying that his team is playing great. do you think that he coaches more on making free throws than mick? do you think that he spends more time on rebounding drills than mick? do you think that he works at his offense more than mick? or does anyone think that maybe, just maybe, mick coaches these fundamentals too and the players aren't getting it done. if anyone has the time, check out a practice after work some evening. and you will see that mick hammers his players on all of these things. why the players dont give it a whirl during a game sometimes is beyond me.
I don't doubt that Mick teaches all these fundamentals. Somehow, though, his message is just not getting across. I agree that the players are partly to blame, because they are not playing to their abilities. That said, it is the job of the coaches to get the message across and get the most out of their players. As I said, this isn't a "new" problem, we are having the same problems that have plagued Bobcat teams for the last 16 years.
While I agree with your statement that it isn't totally fair to say "when a team is playing great, it's always the coaching, and when they are bad, it's always the coaching," that comes with the territory. Mick, and every other coach, knows that this is the way it is at every program in the country, and nobody forced him to take the job. If Mick had a history of winning 6-8 Big Sky titles in his 15 years, I doubt anyone would be putting up too much of a fuss right now. The fact is, we have 1 and a 1/2 titles in 15 years, which is unacceptable. I really thought that maybe Mick felt the heat last year, and I really thought he did a good job of coaching last year's team. This team just isn't responding, though.

gaurentee that no one on this board would stand for the football team to be performing like this and Kramer would have his name slaughtered on this board. We would practically have him out the door right now. Well I think that this poor performance has gone on for 16 years other than 2(96,02). Time to move on, new blood, new blood!!

I just don't understand. It's still the beginning of the season... I realize that we're a few games in... and people might be a little edgy now. Why don't you wait until the end of the season to start your complaining? No one knows what the outcome of the season will be. I know that everyone has a right to express his opinions on this matter, but do you have a suitable replacement? They wouldn't fire Mick during the middle of the season, at least I don't think they would... in my own opinion firing a coach during the middle of a season ends in a terrible finishing by that team (that is in my opinion).
Let's just wait and see, instead of counting our chickens before they've hatched!

Can we at least grumble a little here and there until they are over .500 against D-I teams or break into the top 200 in the sagarin ratings?MSUCATS wrote:I just don't understand. Miller and Durham were a combined 2/15 from three point land......what is wrong with this picture? Dissly and Durr both shot 50% and over during the game.....why all the shots for Miller/Durham? Jefferson is our clutch shooter....should he have the ball in the last seconds?grizzh8r wrote:Miller was 2-11 from 3, and the team shot 11-22 from the line. Theres your ballgame.

Today on the Sports Nuts Durham said that Dissly hasn't stepped up yet this year. How are you supposed to step when you get taken out of the game after hitting 4 of your 5 first shots and when you go back in the guards never go back to you.
Give me a break.

Interesting that he would single out Dissly and not the subpar guard play. It usually isn't his style to single out players.Ponycat wrote:Today on the Sports Nuts Durham said that Dissly hasn't stepped up yet this year. C.Durham goes in shooting spurts I think. Some nights he's on fire from three point land, and other nights cold as ice! ... that's just what I've noticed over the years. That is a terrible percentage thoughMiller and Durham were a combined 2/15 from three point land......what is wrong with this picture?

He talked about positions not stepping up (big guys) but Dissly was the only name I heard him specifically say.PapaG wrote:Interesting that he would single out Dissly and not the subpar guard play. Basically the guys who never get thrown the ball haven't stepped up, which I guess means Offensive rebound put backs.

Don't get the impression that Durham called out Dissly. He just basically said that guys like Dissly, Moss and Jefferson haven't played up to their potential this season, and he looks forward to them getting back on track. I listened to the entire interview, and it wasn't that big of a deal.
He also said that he has been very pleasantly surprised by Durr.

Yeah, there was nothing ground-breaking that came from the interview. He admitted that the team is not playing up to potential. I don't think he was singling out any player in particular. The Wyoming game was also discussed and this may be a hard one, and Wyoming still refuses to come to Bozeman. I think this team is really going to start playing well soon.wbtfg wrote:Don't get the impression that Durham called out Dissly. I think if Wyoming keeps refusing to come to Bozeman we should drop the game. If UM can get Stanford and Gonzaga we should be able to get Wyoming. Why should we have to go there and to Billings.
Our team needs a swift kick in the arse to get them going and if they don't lets start playing the younger guys. We have three great recruits that we are redshirting and we need to build the team around them if the other guys don't start to perform.

The game is played at a neutral site at both places (Billings and Casper). The two teams never play a home game against each other. It sounds like neither of the two cities (Billings/Casper) have embraced the rivalry, and the rivalry would be much stronger if the games were played in Bozeman and Laramie.tetoncat wrote:I think if Wyoming keeps refusing to come to Bozeman we should drop the game. Durham needs to go, does anyone else notice that every year we talk about the same thing, yeah great we may end the year with a decent conference record but when will we ever be better than our conference? I don't think that making the top 6 in conference is that big of an accomplishment, I would say top 3 is a good conference season. After that everyone else is pretty mediocre. Until we demand excellence, which is what happens every year in football, we will not be happy boosters. So obviously Durham isn't going to bring excellence to our program so why keep him? Oh yeah cause he is from 3 forks and is a nice guy......nice guys finish last!

All which is true.....in Dissly's defense, as mentioned by others, he never sees the ball from, Miller - ever.....the point guard's reponsibility in my mind is to distribute the ball - not shoot it every time.wbtfg wrote:Don't get the impression that Durham called out Dissly. The only game I remember he being on fire was the UM game at MSU last year......probably the worst thing that could have happened to him....he thought he was a shooter after that! The point guard distributes!MSUCATS wrote:C.Durham goes in shooting spurts I think. Some nights he's on fire from three point land, and other nights cold as ice! ... !
