Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
The MVFC have quite a few FL guys on rosters. Most notably UNI and NDSU. It's going to be hard to pull guys from those schools that are just as competitive and very successful to get them to go to a similar school farther from home I think. Not saying we won't get some, just that it might be more difficult than we think.

New Prospect:
Jeremy Hodowanic 6'2", 285 lbs. DT TX Forney (2-star) (Navy Transfer)
Redshirted at Navy last year and is now looking to transfer. Follows our coaches and I believe Courtney Messingham follows him on twitter. We need depth at the defensive tackle position so come one, come all!

Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
Since this is a message board, here is a little twitter speculation.
Alex Neale, a 3-star offensive lineman in the 2015 UNLV signing class, has just started to follow both Brian Armstrong and Michael Pitre on twitter. Pitre and Armstrong follow back. A little background on this kid, prior to him signing with UNLV last spring he was committed to none other than the University of Montana. He decommitted from them about a month before singing day and committed to UNLV. Was a redshirt freshman for the Rebels this year. The way I'm reading it is that he is interested in transferring due to the possibility of more playing time on our offensive line. Or he just wants to follow two MSU coaches for fun. He is a VERY good offensive lineman.

They (UM) didn't want him anyways. Duh.VimSince03 wrote:Since this is a message board, here is a little twitter speculation.

Hey Vim. Might have a little research for you. On your list at Safety is Calin Criner out of Meridian ID. I ran into his grandfather fishing this last fall. This kid is a product of a long line of football players and coaching (NFL)! He played somewhere out in Michigan until his father landed a job in Boise. Long story short, this kid made some sort of Alltime Michigan top 50 list as a Junior. The entire West didn't see anything of him except for his Senior year. He might be a "sleeper" get for us. The CATS have an ace in the hole, Grandpa Criner lives in the Gallatin Valley.
OVER THE LINE SMOKEY!!!...........Dude...mark it zero.

That would have been Steve Criner, former Boise head coach.....merff33 wrote:Hey Vim. Might have a little research for you. On your list at Safety is Calin Criner out of Meridian ID. Coach Hout and him followed each other right after it was announced Hout would be an assistant. The kid is one of my favorite players in this class if we get him.wbtfg wrote:Email the info to the coaches.merff33 wrote:Hey Vim. Might have a little research for you. I think the Grandpa is Jim Criner, who won a Nat Championship with Boise when they were 1-aa. I think the Dad is Mark Criner - former DCoordinator for Idaho and is now at Lamar University. I'm not entirely positive - there are a lot of Criner's involved in the Coaching profession, and they're all related.RickRund wrote:That would have Steve Criner, former Boise head coach.....merff33 wrote:Hey Vim. Re: 2016 Montana State Recruiting (10 Verbals)
Coach Choate has been a busy man today following a lot of kids on twitter in current players and recruits. Added a few more to the list:
Sam Maughan 6'4", 210 lbs. WR OR Oregon City (2-star) (Current Wyoming Commit)
Elijah Mcleod 6'2", 200 lbs. WR WA Spanaway (2-star)
Gunner Gibson 6'3", 220 lbs. TE ID Hailey
Ben Hardy 6'6", 210 lbs. TE MT Fairview
Gus Herzog 6'3", 220 lbs. DE MT Helena
Now I know that Gus Herzog possibly accepted an offer from Montana Tech but I think the Cats have re-opened their recruitment of him. And Ben Hardy is former Griz great Greg Hardy's little brother. Long frame to add on weight and make a good tight end. Both I think are possible PWO or partials.
Also, if you guys want to have some fun watching film, there are two defensive recruits who jump out at me on film:
Calin Criner (SS) -
Josiah Erickson (OLB/DE) -
Are you guys ready for the next four week or what!

Criner plays with fire. I like his picking up the partially blocked punt off the ground. I can just hear the fans around me screaming get away from it. I like his aggressiveness.VimSince03 wrote:Coach Choate has been a busy man today following a lot of kids on twitter in current players and recruits. Added a few more to the list:

I like Erickson as well. The mullet is a huge plus for a LB!

(My sense of humor a little dry but a compliment. Here's a reference )

Criner reminds me of Corey Lynch from App State back in their NC days.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

I have spoken with or contacted every single kid listed on the first page of this thread. We are working on a comprehensive table for Skyline as we speak. I'll post when it's complete.
