FINALLY!! I've tried to convey this sentiment before on this board, but it always seems to get lost in all of the "We're better! No, WE'RE better!" back and forth between the alums of both schools.

Like PortlandCat, I also attended a graduate program where the generic State-U grads were greatly outnumbered by the Ivy League-and-other-exclusive-private-school grads. Because I worked hard at UM, I was plenty well prepared when I got there, but I will gladly attest to the fact that the bar was much higher there than it was at UM, and I am confident I would say the same had I gone to MSU.

The moral of the story is, there is no Harvard of the West, and there is a reason why the average Harvard grad (regardless of major) has better job options than the average UM or MSU grad.
...and the average Harvard student is generally Richer, and smarter then the average student at UM/MSU because of strict guidelines on which students they will admit or we all would be attending Harvard

Well, that's getting us into a different conversation. My point is simply that, in the grand scheme of things, this bickering about UM vs. MSU is pretty trivial. There are about three tiers of schools out there where the academic standards eclipse both schools; if you think otherwise, you're deluding yourselves.

New UM recruiting Motto "UM - where Football is king and anything other sport is dUMb"

That sounds like a great slogan to bring track/vball/tennis people in. Keep it up dUMb. I bet their AD just loves this thread ... :) Some great hype up of UM's other sports :)

I think that the point that I was trying to get across in the first place is exactly what you are saying, we don't have the attendence records like UM, because UM put all thier money into the Washington/Grizzly stadium. We have great attendence for the capacity of our stadium, which is only about 9-10 thousand. As far as basketball games, our attendence is fine, above average, and if you ever have the chance to come to a tennis match or a track meet, which would be the only time you see real champions in other sports in action, then I truly beleive that even you would be impressed with the turnout of fans that we get and the support that our "less popular" sports get from our community.

When do I get to be a regular fan?? I was hoping after graduation in 83, and support the University since then, I could drop the bandwagon part of being a GRIZ fan. I have 21 straight years donating to the Excellence Fund. Also started giving money to GSA, first was at the copper level, moved to the silver level and now give at the gold level. I think by any measure, I am off the band wagon fan list and am now just a regular fan and University supporter. Heck, I even donate my time to the University.

But let’s get back to my main point. I acknowledged that it is nice to have awards, all of them. But, if these minor sports are such a big deal at msu, why don’t 7000 msu fans show up for the tennis team??

eastcoastgriz, all Griz fans are bandwagon fans, don't you know, but surely not all the new season ticket holders for the cats. Those people just happened to get raises at McDonalds and can now afford season tickets. They've been at the games the past 10 -20 years in spirit though.

Funny you mention that, McDonalds is paying 10 bucks an hour here.
