Great example Kmax!!! Nash has really elevated the Suns this year!! Amare is a stud player and puts up huge numbers, but the key to the Suns' success is the crazy little canadian!

k-good examples guys but its hard to tell who truly is the most important on any team because its all speculation as to whether the Suns would be hurt more by an injury to Nash/Staudamire. Those two players go hand in hand, Nash would not have as many assists without Amare, but I still think that Amare would score a lot without Nash. The thing is its hard to tell on any team how important a player is, to me that is why you go with statistics. Do you guys think that the team would have been hurt more by having Clark play point more instead of 2, or have Kenny Playing inside with Reynolds. The way I see it is james could run the show without much difference, but Kenny would not put up points like Damir, or rebounds for that matter. I think that team would have been hurt worse by having the best inside player since Damon out than having another guard hurt. We always have good perimeter players but we hardly ever have good inside players-see what I'm saying, there is a reason why the Cats won the conference in 02. INSIDE GAME!!

I'm a huge Suns fan. :D All I can say is, IT'S ABOUT TIME. Why we ever let Nash go in the first place is beyond me.

Coach Carse would immediately make the Bobcat's THE powerhouse program in the Big Sky Conference. It isn't much of a stretch to think the Division II program he heads right now could compete in the Big Sky. Coach Carse's personality, recruiting expertise, and incredible coaching ability would be a huge addition to the Montana State Athletic Department.
R U KIdding me. COach Carse. HE would do nothing but ruin Bobcat basketball. He only wins at home because the refs basically cheat for him. His teams don't win on the road when it counts. Montana teams in the Frontier wont play him because of his attitude towards them and he is scared to play frontier teams because the might lose. It is sad that they don't play Rocky anymore. Bad idea on the Carse thought.

I'm starting to think there might be a curse of BobcatNation.com.

Everytime you guys get up on something the walls cave in. Poor Steve Nash he had no chance against the CAT.COM Curse. :D

Yeah, oops!!! I guess we should only discuss how good our opponents are from now on.

The quote from the article I read that exemplified Nash's importance to the team was this:

"When Steve Nash went down with an injury in the second quarter, Phoenix came unglued."

That is what an MVP is. The person that holds the team together. Anyway sorry Steve, I think Kevin Criswell is the Big Sky MVP(c'mon bobcatnation curse!) :)

I'd like to add a couple of comments from an occasional observer:

(1) "ZifCat52" and "mslacat" are both to be commended for their lengthy, well-organized, highly informative posts. If any of you consider yourselves true fans of Bobcat basketball, you should re-read these two posts that started this thread and start to think seriously -- one side or the otehr -- whether you want to get out and support MSU.

(2) "AZ21-whatever", you are wau off track about Damir Latovic's issue with the BigSky MVP. Are you nuts? I had an internship with the Big Sky Conf a few summers ago and if ALL of the polls (pre-season pix, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, All-Conf teams, etc.) are conducted the same way now as they were when I worked there, a coach CANNOT vote for his own team or any players on his own team, nor can he [obviously] pencil himself in as his own nominee for CotY!

(3) I know a couple people down in Salt Lake who know Dissly and they can tell you darn well that he LOVES to win. Did you see him on TV last night? He was laughing, smiling, and smirking ... and playing DEFENSE like crazy. Teh Missoulan article complemented Dissly on a key defensive move that made Criswell miss near the end. And, Dissly also caused a key hustle-caused turnover with about 1 minute to play last night. Yes, he needs to penetrate and slash more since MSU has a good set of 3-point shooters and other guys who can post up. But, this year MSU also needs him to focus on DEFENSE, PASSING, REBOUNDING, & heady play. Every person on the MSU team must know his role, and those goys are still learning. And, my goodness, if he ends up being yet another scoring threat (option #4?) for your Bobcats, look out!

(4) As of now, I add a HUGE vote of confidence for Coach Durham. His team is winning right now and will probably continue to do so. I can also tell you that he is possibly the most respected coach of all the sports by the enitre staff down in BSC headquarters. HOw do I vote?

It's good to win in Missoula no matter how. Jefferson really had a monstrous game. Dissly did all the "little things" and some big things that helped the Cats win. I agree that if he could add to the scoring by going to the basket, he could become another Jason Erickson type because of his all around game. He is the glue that holds the team together right now. He needs to stop taking those 35 foot threes though.

I do however feel that the game last night looked more like the usual "live by the three and die by the three" than the "pound it inside" that I was hoping to see from the Cats after last weekend. The friz weren't more physical than Weber were they? It looked like the inside game was what we started with, but after we had a 20-7 lead we got away from it and started the perimeter game again. Was it the friz defense, or did we shy away from the banging inside? We got outrebounded terribly. We were definitely quicker and played excellent perimeter defense, but if we hadn't hit 10 threes, we don't win.

Moss looked like he could take Seifert inside all night...but during the middle of the game all our scoring came from Miller and Jefferson with a few by Dissly. I'm not knowledgeable or stupid enough to think that all they had to do was throw the ball inside and the rebonding and inside scoring would come by itself, but could anyone tell me why we stopped trying? Did the friz defense dictate it, or did we do it because we found that we were hitting our threes and it was easier? It's no wonder we don't shoot as many fouls as our opponent...we don't put any pressure on the basket.

I think we win when individuals step up are able to elevate their games. I don't think the cats under durham win because of his schems and offensive plays. I think he doesn't have much of a clue on the offensive side of the ball. Defense is another story. That is his redeming trait. His traps work well and they play aggresive D.

I don't care what we do this season I think he still needs to go. I have seen his teams for 6 yrs now and I have yet to see us play above our abilities on the offensive side through smart coaching. Again we live and die by the three.

I would just like to make one request...Can we put the Durham should stay or go talk away until the end of the season? I think it is clear that many people would like Mick to go while others love what he does for MSU. Either way the team is 3-0 and playing well! Lets focus our talk on football recruits, upcoming games, etc. and leave the talk of whether Mick should stay or go until after the season. I have been just as critical of Mick in the past as anyone else, but right now he is our coach and we need to keep cheering for the Cats as a whole while they make their run through the Big Sky. GO CATS!

No talk of how bad Durham is? But that would mean I would have to start ragging on Towsley. JK  Never the less that is perhaps a good point.

I actually saw emotion and fire in Mazzola---especially when there was only .6 seconds left and he was getting the kids ready for the fizzlies last inbounds play; I concur. Let it rest and let him decide the end of the year if he's fed up with "...everything else that goes with coaching..."

Post by tctait » Tue Jan 18, 2005 11:45 am

You guys that want Coach Durham out of there are dandys. YOu basically have no clue. He runs a good program, the Cats are above competitive every year, and play a very tough non-conference schedule. I have not been on the chat line during football, but what has Coach Kramer done that Coach Durham hasn't. The football team hovers around .500 every year and has tied for co-champs, but not with that great of a record. Get off of Coach Durham's back, let him coach this brand new group of guys that he recruited for the next couple of seasons, and then make a judgement.

Do you have a split personality? Your last post called for Durham to be fired and replaced by the MSU-B coach. There's no chance that you're just trying to stir up some muck, are you?

Actually BAC, that was SeniorWeezer's post from earlier in this thread (page 1, post 7)...Unless SW and TCT are the same person.

Oops, you're right. When I clicked on the "previous post" thing, it just displays the body of the text of the previous post, in which he had quoted the post that you mentioned. I couldn't tell that it wasn't his actual post... now I know how that function works.

My bad. Sorry about that. I'm just ready for this topic to die a quick and painless death (at least until after the season), so I am a bit too skeptical whenever anyone adds another post to it.

Different is Kramer has been generating support, and has been getting people excited about Bobcat football again. I think basketball excitement has been going down. Plus Mick has won 1 championship in his 20 years, Kramer has 2 already. 20 years is plenty to turn us into atleast a BSC powerhouse, but he hasn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm on neither side of the Mick arguement, but I woulnd't mind seeing some new direction of the program, whether Mick can do that or someone else.
