Some people are a lot like slinkies....... Not really good for much, but it puts a smile on your face to watch them fall down a set of stairs.

Correct, but we don’t typically have games coming up in supposedly a month. If there is a spring season (which I’m in the camp that there won’t be one) we would be in a world of hurt.bobcat99 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 5:56 pmThis is when coaching changes typically happen.ibleedblue wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 5:45 pmWhoa, ****** just got really real. Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
I'm a huge Choate guy. HUGE.
But this is surprising to me, I know he is really impressive in terms of his communication and vision but he doesn't have the record at the moment to back it up IMO. Bohl could only get Wyoming and he won 47 National Championships for the Bison.
I hope we don't lose him, but what a cool deal for Choate if he gets it.

Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
Man...it's gonna happen, isn't it? They'd probably just run with an assistant as interim for the Spring season.
That culture aspect that Choate has mastered is what I'm most concerned about in a new coach. Getting kids to buy in to what MSU is about and the whole holistic approach to being a part of the bobcats. May seem cliché to some, but that commitment from the players and coaches is invaluable. Going to take a special guy to keep that going, if we get to that point.
I had a conversation today, with a QB from a bottom feeder SEC school and asked him about the big differences between them and the powerhouse schools. First word out of his mouth was "culture," then went on to talk about the coach not really developing that environment and players not fully buying in to the team. Safe to say that's the case for every perennial losing team.

All the more reason to treat the possible spring season like extended practice and exhibition games.ibleedblue wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:04 pmCorrect, but we don’t typically have games coming up in supposedly a month. Can we get hero sports to start a rumor that BSU is leaving the MWC and joining the Big Sky?

There’s a few variables here that make this more believable, although very out of the ordinary.BigBruceBaker wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:24 pmI'm a huge Choate guy. HUGE.

1) Chris Peterson. Peterson likes Choate, and is helping Boise with the search. Peterson is a god in Boise, so they do what he says.
2) Connections. Choate coached at Boise, and Boise seems to love to stay in the family. Plus a lot of former players have spoken up for Choate. That matters more than fan opinion.
3) Money. Especially with COVID, Boise doesn’t have an exceeding amount of money to compete with Oregon, or Auburn, or the like. Choate is cheap, relatively.

Can we really trust football scoop when they said in the article we made our first semifinal appearance in school history last year?

Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
I don’t want to lose Choate, but I guess the silver lining is that MSU is in a GREAT place to do a HC search. MSU is already a great FCS job, but given the SF showing last year, the talent on the field, the new facilities, and, maybe most importantly, our coach getting a BIG promotion...this ought to be a plum job for an ambitious talented coach.bobcat99 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 5:55 pmBoise probably didn’t want to pay the money required for Moore and his assistants.HelenaCat95 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 4:23 pmIf this is true (the statement I bolded), then I would be concerned if I was Choate.JDoub wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 12:10 pmhttps://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/co ... uxbndlbing
Moore removes himself from Boise State HC search, signs extension with Cowboys

“What I’ve been told was that he had been offered the job and he accepted the job,” Aikman said. “Then as they were working out some details there was a bit of a disagreement. It was then that Kellen backed out of the deal because he questioned the overall commitment of the university in supporting the football program and his opportunity to have success.
“I would say that’s a great thing on his part,” Aikman continued. “I believe (Boise) is probably his dream job. I think he holds that university in very high regard so for him to not then follow through, I think, speaks volumes about him. I think that’s a good sign. If you’re a Kellen Moore fan and you’re betting on his future, you’d say, gosh, now I like him even more.”
Choate is a good candidate for the job, and he’s also easily the most affordable. They could offer him half of what they were paying Harsin, and it would double Choate’s current paycheck. Makes sense on multiple levels for Boise.
I also have a feeling (totally unsubstantiated by any evidence though) that Kane Ione has been groomed for this. It’s the only conceivable reason Choate wouldn’t be taking him along IMO.

Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
My liver, having fully recovered, due to the lack of Bobcat football this fall has now surrendered. This impending change was to much. It threw up the white flag. Rolled over feet in the air and said “no mas”.
All kidding aside, If Choate takes this job, and he would be foolish in this profession not to if offered, the search would have to begin in earnest ASAP. I have faith in Leon to put us in position to move up along the same trajectory as Choate but putting the pieces in place won’t be easy. We are as a program head and shoulders above where the program was when he arrived but it will again take a team first guy to continue moving forward. That said, I don’t see “that guy” in our coaching tree yet. Ties to the Northwest or significant recruiting in our favored areas, added to program management at this level make it a rough transition for a first time head coach unless your a proven coordinator and leading recruiter in a similar program. 2021 is not helping me forget 2020 yet.

What's more likely:
A) Choate is the MSU head coach in March
B) MSU is playing football games in March

If Choate leaves (all the best) Leon Costello will conduct a comprehensive nationwide search. If Kane Ioane is selected at the end of the process I am extremely confident we will be more than just ok. If there is a better fit than Kane ... so much the better.
Bobcat football is in a very good place.

So - if Choate leaves AND takes a couple of assistants, that hurts. But - what if he takes Troy Andersen with him as well. With the transfer portal and extra year of eligibility that athletes were given, this could be a possibility?

I'll bet the house on this one. Troy won't leave. He's a solid MSU guy from a solid Dillon ranching family and with a good head on his shoulders. No chance.

Troy would have to believe that going to BSU raises his profile. I think that’s a stretch. Could definitely be wrong, but he’s already getting plenty of attention.
Being an all American as a sophomore at your 3rd best position will do that. He’s already a second day pick...not sure a year at BSUreally gains him anything. Might even drop him if he gets hurt or doesn’t light the MWC on fire.
Maybe I’m just praying for the best.
With a goid senior year, Troy is

It sounds like Choate is the front runner and if he’s offered and accepts, he’s expected to take Udy and Hout with him.
