It’s the most important position on the field. General rule of thumb is to get at least one QB every recruiting class.

We are less than a month from the first signing period and with only seven current commits, this is obviously going to be a small initial signing class. I know Vigen said that he is only looking at signing around 18 players this year and with a significantly lower number of offers than in the past, I can see that playing out. I wonder if this is a year where they look more at the portal for players. I definitely see a need for an experienced linebacker or two. Time will tell, but it’s interesting to see how this year shakes out.

I haven’t heard or seen enough on Abshire or Duchien to make a determination. Pretty sure a lot of guys said that Tommy would never take a snap at QB when he was an incoming freshman. Were you one of them? Of course if guys don’t work out QB, it changes the equation. And any position makes exceptions for a 3 star recruit.
I’m really just talking reality here. Abshire is a walk-on who had offers from a D2 school and Whitworth, which I think is NAIA. Duchien is a partial from a small Montana school who isn’t a great athlete. I think both can be solid members of the roster, but the chances of either being a solid BSC starter are very low. I’m not sure I understand the Tommy comment. Tommy is good because he’s an elite athlete. If he were even an average athlete, he wouldn’t be starting at QB here. Again, nothing against the two guys I’ve mentioned, but they aren’t so good that you just don’t bring another QB in. They’re backups, and that’s not a bad thing! Valuable role on the roster, but in my mind, you still work on bringing a QB in every year.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we work the transfer portal for a QB, personally. One to replace Chambers role.

We'll definitely be looking for a transfer but the Chambers role is such a unique situation. They like what they have in Chance Wilson and Jordan Reed will continue to develop. Personally I think it's clear Chance Wilson will be the future once Tommy graduates.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 10:24 amLook man, I’m strictly talking football here. I was curious why the Cats didn't get Chance a few snaps during the season. I would have liked to see him under fire a bit, even if it was in garbage time.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 11:23 amWe'll definitely be looking for a transfer but the Chambers role is such a unique situation. I didn’t mean exactly the Chambers role, but I think they’ll want a veteran QB if they can find one willing to buy in. Next years team is going to have championship aspirations (again).VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 25, 2023 11:23 amWe'll definitely be looking for a transfer but the Chambers role is such a unique situation. It's interesting that the Cats don't have a single Texas commit even though they have put out significantly more offers in that state than any other location. I suspect that will change soon. I can see at least one or two players committing from Texas soon.

So far, the Cats have only lost one Texas recruit to an FCS school and that was Grambling. Time will tell where the others go. I do believe the Cats have a good shot at landing Brendon Ross.Montanabob wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 2:41 pma couple good programs this year may be taking a bite - tarleton and UIW

I know. I was a bit surprised he came to MSU for the visit.
It's also interesting that, other than Montana kids, the Cats and gris don't really overlap much in their offers every year. Sure, there will be a few out of state kids every year that get offers from both schools but for the most part there isn't much of it happening these days.
