Yale, one of the original blue bloods of college football playing since 1876 coming to Bobcat Stadium is awesome!

Fun game to watch. I was one series away from turning to another game I’m glad I stuck with it. On first blush I’m thinking Yale tries to run clock more against us. So I’m expecting a little lower score. Perhaps 38-17 Cats or something like that.

With all the $ in Bozeman i wonder if theres a lot of Yale grads with 2nd homes in Bozeman. Though I was suprosed with all the empty seats that there weren't more Yale fans at the game.

They are actually called the “Elis”. That came to be after they changed the name to Yale in early 1700s…named after benefactor Elihu Yale. Thus students are referred to as “Elis” now. True story. Now you have a trivia game answer!cat-o-nine wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:21 pmLet's get ready to welcome the Yalies to our wonderful stadium. They've never seen anything like it!!

I’m guessing the average Yale fan would choose going to a game in Bozeman to YSU.
Plus a decent number of alumni probably have properties in the area.

I hope not too much snow. A heavy footed tough runner like Pitsenberger could be a challenge in weather. Since he has run over 30 times a game last couple games I would expect a heavy dose of him! But we should handle him normally!RickRund wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:27 pmAnd you all were correct about Youngstown now being able to close out a game…
Guessing there were 3000ish in attendance. It looks like snow next weekend in Bozeman. They will surely come close to a full house. Even at 79 I would be in the crowd if I could be there. Here’s to leaving the Yalies in awe of the crowd. (How do you spell Yalies????)

Re: Youngstown State or Yale?
I'm a Yale alum as is my wife-- I'll go with my Yale hat, and if the alumni association does a pre-game event I'll go.
But I'm still cheering for the Bobcats all the way.
I have seen a few Yale games this year-- they are a good team, but I don't think they can hang with us. We just have too many athletes and are too good a team.
Reno is a good QB, who, as noted in the game had a lot of power 4 offers. Pittsenberger, their RB is a stud who might have a pro future-- he's a load to bring down and will keep our interior DL busy. Kamara, the ivy league defensive player of the year is a stud at safety and a possible future pro. But they just don't have the depth of talent we do.
There are only about 200-300 Yale alums in Montana, so they won't have much of a local following, but Yale alums/parents/students are well-off enough and might be motivated enough by the first round comeback that I could see them bringing a decent crowd-- particularly Denver area alums who could fly up easily and cheaply.
And they will have had a comparable hostile crowd. Road games vs. Harvard are 30,000+ fans and pretty loud.
But I like our chances. We just have too many horses.

This is true. I know at least a couple of classmates who have places in Big Sky. Maybe they'll come up for an early ski week. But not in enough numbers that it will make a difference in terms of the crowd composition.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:39 pmI’m guessing the average Yale fan would choose going to a game in Bozeman to YSU.

Different sport but Yale seems good at upsets so we need to bring our A game

I wouldn't expect to see a large contingent of Yale fans for a game on the opposite side of the country with only a week's notice to plan travel and accommodations. Probably the usual player/coach families and a smattering of fans who are super die-hard or happen to live nearby.

The difference between MSU and YSU handling him is miles apart.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:43 pmI hope not too much snow. Nothing affects crowd composition like Cat/Griz, and even then it’s still a pretty good Cats advantage. No other opponent would come closeTravelingcat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:47 pmThis is true. Re: Youngstown State or Yale?
Their strength of schedule was #78. That’s in the lower half of the FCS. Montana State this year is #3 strength of schedule which is well ahead of last year. North Dakota is #1 which is probably why they made the playoffs.
If Ivy teams want to be competitive they need to play a full schedule (Yale and Harvard only play 10 games) and they need to play tougher non-conference games. Playing 7 Ivy League games plus only 3 OOC games including Stonehill down not get a team playoff ready. The playoffs are on a different level, and they two Ivy teams were not ready.

Re: Youngstown State or Yale?
Ivy teams do need to play more games and a full out of conference schedule. Hopefully the FCS playoffs will whet their appetites. The top players in the ivies are quite good. Both Yale and Harvard put a lot of guys in the NFL. Foye Oluokun, the LB for the Jags, is a Yale alum who is a better pro than anyone the Cats have. The issue for them is depth. There are a decent number of players who have the academics to go Ivy and who are willing to play at a lower level for the Ivy experience/degree. But the bottom half of their rosters are just not competitive with top FCS teams.Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 3:06 pmTheir strength of schedule was #78. That’s in the lower half of the FCS. Youngstown is one of the most boring places on the planet. It’s soul crushing there. Bozeman would be a lot better trip for Yale fans.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Sat Nov 29, 2025 2:39 pmI’m guessing the average Yale fan would choose going to a game in Bozeman to YSU.

Probably the best opportunity I’ll have in this life to see someone organically wearing a monocle. I’m so excited.
