Let's see...we have a player here who is the son of an all-time great Bobcat, a player who's a great player, and a good character kid who wants to be a Bobcat. Even though there are a lot of linebackers here already, they need to get Clay Bignell on the Bobcat squad. I'm not moving in my position on this one. They can find a place for him to play.
GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan!

My name is Steve, if you'd like to know.

And I'm not budging from mine. Sure, they can find a place for him, but do you want to just do that if he's not the player you think he is? Seems we'd have to do the same for every son/nephew/grandson of every good player we've ever had, if we do it with Joe Bignell's nephew. Even if he comes to MSU, he may never play a down considering the competition, which is just as good at UM. MSU has room for him and MSU is interested. The ball's in his court. I hope he comes here, but if both MSU and UM offer and he picks UM, that will be his decision and you have to respect it.bozbobcat wrote:Let's see...we have a player here who is the son of an all-time great Bobcat, a player who's a great player, and a good character kid who wants to be a Bobcat. What about Jack McGillis... I tell you we should be all ov......rtb wrote:Don't you know it is an unwritten message board rule to have at least two players every year for people to argue about if we should recruit them and how good they are?vike_king wrote:Gawd, this topic reminds me a little about the whole Larsen from Cut Bank topic last year.

Bignell
I am a CAT fan so I do not like to say this,
He was very impressed with his walk through--lockerrooms, tunnell, 24 thousand, etc.
He also thought Bobby was a smooth talker, but knew that platers said that changes fast once on campus.

I think the stadium the tunnell and the fan support is a huge pull for players....I only hope young men can see through it all and go where is best for them...mostly the environment and especially the finances...I don't blame him if they offer more at U of M..I am soooo hoping that Coach Kramer visited him yesterday....
Please say its so....

Some where on this thread somebody mentioned that the Griz have a bunch of MT kids on their defense. This is something that gets brought up alot and I am not sure why this angers some people. There has been talk about Kramer not playing the Mt kids and that just seems absurd to me, I don't know the big guy myself but i can assure you that he is not sitting around saying "we would be a better team with this MT kid playing, but i just would rather play a CA kid". The second part of this is that we are still losing the battle to dUMb for the top in-state players. I think we are starting to turn it around but it may be awhile before we are even close to them in that respect.

I brought it up and it doesn't anger me. I just said that it was really something to be proud of---#1 defense in the BSC and 7 of 11 starters are from MT. They just seem to take more chances on the MT kids that others say "aren't quite D-1 material"--but you could be right that it is just that they are still getting the better of the MT kids????c.falls cat wrote:Some where on this thread somebody mentioned that the Griz have a bunch of MT kids on their defense. How long do those starters stay in the game? Just curious. Looks good start them, especially at Cat/griz, but if they are out after a few minutes, it is just for show.LTown Cat wrote:I brought it up and it doesn't anger me. I'm not actually sure if those #'s are correct (7 of 11), that is just what one of my Griz fan co-workers told me.bobcatmaniac wrote:How long do those starters stay in the game? Just curious. I think 7 of 11 is right, but that's a one year thing.. MSU had Daly and Papich starting. We saw Anderson, Gazzero, Hoffenbacker, Kinkelaar, and Fletcher out on the field quite a bit. UM had 51 Montanans, MSU 38 last year, but they had more players on their roster. Not a significant difference. A lot of our guys are young, so who knows if those numbers won't change pretty soon.
On offense they had Bagley, Beaudin, and maybe an off. lineman starting. We had Birkeland, Barnhart, Hanson. They had Carpenter and Johnson kicking we had Bolton and Fisher.
Is it really that big of a difference? Next year, Mullen, Harris and Murphy are gone as starters for UM on D. We'll add Hoff for sure. Maybe Kinkelaar. Maybe Guazzero at saftey, if the move him. So on D it might UM 5, MSU 4. Anderson and Fletcher will get PT.

I know we're somewhat veering off topic here - but the "MT players" debate is a good one. I heard scuttle that Umass followers felt that MT had way too many home-grown kids to seriously challenge for a national title. That may be stretching it, but it really is amazing that the Griz are as good as they are at the D1 level with so many MT guys. We have such a tiny pool to choose from. Umass and App State both have huge #'s or 1A transfers, and let's face it... it shows. They're obviously quite a bit better than us and\or the Griz. They'll showcase that in about an hour and a half!

Great time to be a BOBCAT!

I think it is called PRIDE. The Griz do a good job of identifying those kids who can play on this level and then fill in with out of state kids. I think Kramer does somewhat the same except he offers full rides instead of partials to a few MT kids that he really wants and asks the rest to walk on and earn their scholarship. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I do know that the kids who do earn scholarships after walking on first become first rate players for both schools. Daly and Papich come to mind and now maybe Jesse Anderson.catatac wrote:I know we're somewhat veering off topic here - but the "MT players" debate is a good one. I absolutely hate sticking up for Appalachian State. But, they only had three transfers on their team this year according to a couple of posters that week of the game.catatac wrote:I know we're somewhat veering off topic here - but the "MT players" debate is a good one. Hey LTOWN, sorry if i ruffled your feathers a bit about the anger thing, that wasn't the intention, just wanted to bring the subject up and your right, that would be something to be proud of.
It's funny that the transfers was brought up, the night the Griz were playing UMass i was in Kalispell doing some shopping and the First Griz guy i came across jumped right on all of the UMass transfers and started bemoaning how there was no way they could compete with that and that the rule should be changed so they have to sit out a year (classic Griz fan huh! always got an excuse, funny thing was they were still winning the damn game at that point, anyways) I told him that I liked the rule and was glad because both them and us have benefitted from it. Personally I hope the rule doesn't get changed and i hope we still get those guys in, it's best way to fill a hole quickly.
