CSU - Mick Delaney met with Dan this week and spoke with his Dad by phone. Offered prefered walk on status.

U of M - LB coach Gregorak is in Denver this week and spoke with Dad.

UNC - constant contact from UNC with high interest, no offers yet.

NAU - talking with Raunig

Chadron St. - offering Raunig in January during visit

Western St. - offering Raunig

Hastings College - offering Raunig

Carroll College - CC accepted application, offered partial scholastic schollie, football schollie offer likely when Van Diest visits Raunig in Denver in January.

MSU - NO CONTACT Letters & tape sent a year ago and phone calls in last few months.
Struggling to figure out why MSU "fell off the list".

It appears Dan is destined to attend college with a scholarship if he desires. Thank you for the update. I do not pretend to know who the coaches have established as their go to guys. I know they have offered a LB from Montana a full scholarship. I really don't know how many more we need. Do you feel Dan could play another position in college? The reason I ask this because our LB core is strong and very deep at this point (particularly with the new recruit). So, if he's limited in his positions he can play, that may be why he's not receiving attention (the staff has historically picked up LB's who were great athletes BUT could play other positions such as safety, RB, TE, OLB).

Again, I have no inside information to base any reason as to why they're not responding. I would like to see that courtesy extended to him. But, I'm not a coach.

Are you a family member? You seem more on top of his status then a standard "college recruiter". If so, good luck to Dan, he'll do great wherever he goes (hopefully that is here!)

Which college are you recruiting for? Is your school going to offer him?

Go Bears, go get him! I wouldn't mind seeing him staying here and playing for the Bears.

I do however see us stock piled at LB for a few years to come though. Hopefully we offer and he comes to Greeley.

ColoradoInsider: All-State Defense

If you could hand pick a defense it would be hard to pass on these players. Regardless of classification or position, this crew has one thing in common, try to move the ball you pay the price.

All season long, I crowed about how defense wins championships. Luckily teams such as Columbine and Wheat Ridge, on the way to titles, rode tough D. Here is the first annual ColoradoInsider All-State defense. When making the team, a 4-3 base alignment was envisioned but I kept in mind players who had the athleticism to play multiple spots in various fronts and coverages.

Defensive Line

Connor Wright 6’1 215 Wheat Ridge Senior

For the season, the Farmer defense held opponents to right at seven points a game. One of the key components of this defense was Wright who used his athleticism to register over 100 tackles this season.

Curtis Cunningham 6’2 255 Columbine Junior

The only junior on this squad, Cunningham was the South Metro defensive player of the year, which is a major honor for an interior defensive lineman. Run yards were tough to come by against the Rebels and Cunningham was a major factor in this.

Marcus Felker 6’0 315 Thornton Senior

Although Felker’s Thornton squad had a down year, the Wyoming bound DT had a strong season and was voted the Front Range defensive player of the year. At 6’0 315 pounds, Felker eats up blockers and double teams thus allowing teammates to make plays. Although big, Felker’s background as a wrestler and surprising quickness allow him to pressure QBs and make plays down the line.

David Angilau 6’2 260 Niwot Senior

BYU commit Angilau is the epitome of what this D is about with the ability to play on the edge and interior. This flexibility comes from Angilau’s combination on speed and strength.

Linebacker

Dan Raunig 5’9 212 Mountain Vista Senior

If Raunig were 6’2, every college in the nation would be knocking on his door. Raunig is a four year starter who has been a tackling machine in each of those seasons. This year may have been Raunig’s crowning achievement as he registered nearly 160 total tackles while leading the Golden Eagles to a Continental League title.

Kyle Theret 5’11 185 Mullen Senior

This season, the Mullen offense got the majority of the headlines but the defense allowed only fourteen points a game. The leader of that defense was Theret, who was all over the field. On the season, he had seven sacks, a pick and well over 100 tackles.

Gabe Knapton 6’3 215 Skyline Senior

Knapton is one of many Colorado prepsters who will continue their careers by playing at the University of Wyoming. Coach Glenn will be happy to have a linebacker who had over 170 tackles this season.

Defensive Back

Jared Campbell 6’0 190 Overland Senior

Campbell is going to take his skills to the University of Washington where he will patrol the defensive side of the field. His size makes him an ideal player in the secondary and should allow him to do well in coverage in the pass happy Pac 10.

C.J. Gilman 6’1 210 Columbine Senior

Tough as nails is the best way to describe Gillman, who had five picks this season for the Rebels along with leading the Rebel run game as the QB.

Anthony Perkins 5’11 190 Northglenn Senior

One of the top offensive players in the state but will most likely play his college ball on the defensive side. This year was able to shut down opposing receivers as needed.

Blake Morgan 6’0 190 Greeley West Senior

Along with many on this team, Morgan is a great offensive player, but his play on the defensive side of the ball is what has made him All-State. On defense, Morgan registered nearly 120 tackles to go with six picks.

Tomorrow we will take a look at the offense and later in the week profile players who just missed the cut as well as special teams performers. Get on the message board and let me know what you think. Just one rule, if you don't like a pick tell who you would replace them with and why

CR: You may have seen we lost out in our pursuit of Ryan Fetherston. We offered him a full and he went to some other school. So perhaps this will free up something for Dan. Have you heard if he's been contacted by MSU in the past few days?
