Can't deny that UMass was the better team. The picks and penalties kept us in it, but in the end, Swogger just cracked under pressure.

I wouldn't put the blame on Swogger at all, really; besides the fact that the Griz offense had to stand cold on the sideline for most of the game, time of possession definitely in UMass favor, the UMass punter pinning the Griz within the ten two or three times, having our hands full of Baylark which was a tough task in itself. All of it contributed. Too bad we didn't get Swogger for another year. Two years in the Griz offense would have been a better situation like how Ochs did with his college career. All in all, not a bad year; finishing in the final four is always nice. At least we finally beat those bad o' putty-tats from Bozo-ville this year. That always assuages the wounds. I hope someone other than Appalachian St. wins it this year though.

Be careful what stones you all cast, lest someone dig into the not so distant past for a few threads about a certain WR pass play or the 5 page thread about the QB that didn't quite get it done for us either. They are stinging from a tough loss, just like we were last week so at least cut them a little slack.

Congrats to the Griz on a great season. You all made it way further than I thought you would at the beginning of the season and after watching Cat/Griz the Griz earned alot of respect from me for being a good hard-nosed team. Both Bobcats and Grizzlies had seasons to remember and every Montanan and alumni should be very proud!

Players who play the whole game, overcome mistakes, continue to take hits, and find themselves trying to make something happen; if something goes wrong is it just their fault?
We lost some early games where players were trying to make something happen; or not staying with their assignments; was the resulting loss just their fault; absolutely not! With every play there are winners and losers, when all those are added up; the game is decided. Momentum shifts with the fans can occur with just one play; we’re a fickle bunch. With a team; at least a mature team; momentum does not swing as easily. As fans we should be cognoscenti enough to realize how teams are comprised and consequently understand how teams lose.

Great thought process. Although we have the comfort of our seats on the sidelines and I keep thinking of Teddy's "Man in the Arena" speech I had over my desk when I was continually criticized during my working career, this time of year gives us great comfort in that we get to watch the culmination of a hard season of work and practice for many teams, i.e., athletically, musically, and administratively in various colleges during bowl seasons as all the programs assess where they are, what they need to fix and then go out and find those kids that can quickly fix what may have been the weak link to the recently completed season.

As far as I'm concerned, the start of 2007 has already started because just as Dennis Erickson is in California recruiting, I know our staff is out on the hunt for those few kids to put us "...among the truly elite...we're not quite there yet..." for next year and many years to come. I'm excited for next year already.

I was on my way back from Shelby yesterday and we swung into the halftime bar to watch the game and get something to eat, and drink. The game was just starting and it was packed the 3 of us found a seat and were watching the game, but pretty soon it became more entertaining to watch the more animated fans in the room. The one guy was swearing a blue streak that would make Eddy Murphy blush, everytime that running back would get the ball. There was a couple that was right in front of us that I don't think said a word all night but watching them, you would have thought they were going through elctro torture treatments, he would literally start vibrating on the stool when things went wrong.

I had promised the one guy that was helping me yesterday I wouldn't root against the griz, and I didn't, not did I need too. But as down as the friz fans got on the team when they got the ball back with 49 sec. left every single one of them was confident that they were going to pull it off. I know they have done it so many times there is no way I would have bet against them. When the INT occured I couldn't believe how the people were clearing out. The place seemed like a ghost town in 5 minutes.

I of course had on my trusty bobcat hat and as one guy is leaving he turns and says what are you doing here, I thought he must be someone I had spoken to before and said just watching the game. His response made me believe in CAT/griz once again. He said "then it's your fault, when loser Bobcats start rooting for griz we should have known we would lose." He turned and walked away.

In the last few weeks with all the warm fuzzies cats and griz have been giving each other, it was starting to scare me. I like the rivalry. Even a little bitterness and I was afraid that we were losing it. But after that instance, I know that Cat/ griz is alive and well.

I would assume that that would include coaches as well as players. The defense finished the season strong! Very strong! Many have ripped the offense, but let me point something out. The offense had over 3000 yards and helped the team get as far as the quarterfinals. Not bad! In fact, it is excellente' when put into perspective. Here is a little perspective. The offense achieved this in a year where we started 2 different quarterbacks, 3 different tailbacks, 3 different tight ends, 6 different wideouts and 2 different centers. Pretty impressive when you look at the adversity.
With a little less adversity next year, expect good things from the offense and defense.

19Cat, I had the same thing happen to me in Chattanooga in 2001, and I was sitting by T.J. Oelker's family (because of the military background) and Szalazay (or something like that) and they won the freaken game.

Not to mention the screen pass UMass used. That was wiiiiiiiiide open all game long - D-coord never made the adjustment. The ESPN2 announcers at one point said something like 13 of the 17 passes Coen completed (up to that point) were screens - I was at a christmas party for work and only caught snippets of the game, but I caught that comment. Blew my mind...

I agree that no one should blame any one player or coach for a loss. I don't think you can bang on a player, especially, for just trying to make plays. I didn't see any "give-up" by any player Friday night.

My wife and I took the family to Billings for the weekend. My wife had two run ins with some Griz fans; one was Saturday evening and one today.

The run in on Saturday wasn't much - the guy made a snide comment to my wife about our pickup (maroon truck with "NTAGRZ" plates) and basically saying that she really wanted to be a Griz fan since her pickup was close in color.

The one today was a little more of laugher. I was watching the kids while she was out shopping with her Mom. She was at Shopko and while checking out, the clerk made a sneering comment while rolling his eyes and saying "oh no, not another Bobcat Fan". I guess he went on for a little bit asking her why she would do such a thing and that she must be a student at the school. She's not much of a "confrontationalist". But, finally, she said that she couldn't lilve with herself if she was an arrogant prick Griz fan like him. I about fell over when she told me that. But, by that time I guess she'd had about all she could take from the toll of both events.
Couple this with when we were at Cat/Griz and she was getting concessions in the stadium. She orders her food, pays for it and the guy goes to help someone else. She asks him if he's going to get her stuff or not and he says "Oh, I didn't think you Cat fans were that smart". My wife looked at him and said "Who's working the game and who's watching the game".

I'm so proud!!!!
