No. See the last play of the first half.

I disagree about the play calling. If we execute we win. 4 crucial plays - 1. and 2. Jefferson-make those 2 catches. 3. The obvious face mask on the 4th quarter interception by Carp, and 4. The dropped pass in the endzone by Wheaton in the 4th quarter. We were 1 play away from beating the #2 ranked team at their place.
I agree that we could have made plays that would have won us the game but when you a struggling to move the ball and you have a 3rd and 1 in Grizzly territory run the ball and pick up the first down. Rolo was struggling and even if a guy was wide open he probably would have over thrown him. Mason is runnig great and when he gets stripped we comletely abandon the running game. By the second half the Grizzlies didn't even have to respect the running game. Their backers could drop back in coverage, which they did well, and the D-line could come straight after the QB sitting in the pocket. At least roll out or run some middle screens to keep them honest. The Griz had to make the same adjustment at half and that was the deciding factor. They rolled Swogger out and moved the pocket. Our backers couldn't tee-off on him like they did in the first half. They also used the Tight End to block and went to three step drops to get the ball out quick. We kept running 10 yard slants and seems and it wasn't there because of the Griz linebackers getting great depth creating a difficult pass over the middle. I think our offensive coordinator got out coached. Can't take anything away from our effort and the Griz effort. Certainly a great game to watch and talk about.

Yep, 3rd and 1 (4 down territorry) you tell your OL to line up and smash them back. Going for a long pass play down the field for the INT was not the correct call in that situation. YOU BEAT THE GRIZ D by playing smash mouth with them. That is how it is done. They are a smaller/fast type D that swarms. You pop them in the mouth and use the trap/wham blocking running plays and you can gain yard against them. Then you can use the play action from that when they have to bring the extra guys up. You also use some delay screen on definate blitz plays too on attacking defenses. We didn't us very much misdirection at all either. Maybe they were trying to throw something different at them because they knew hte Griz would be expecting that, but you have to use misdirection against those fast swarming D's like that. If you watch how many players are around the ball at end of play for the Griz there has to be a total SELL OUT by those players to be that close at the end of the snap. Misdirection and you have teams like that out of position!
