I don’t know how Hawkins coaches. Is he a stick to his guns coach or does venture out and mix things up a lot?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 1:20 pmI’d imagine ISU is watching a lot of what Mercyhurst did in the pass game. It was surprisingly effective considering the talent disparity. They converted a lot of downs with it.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 12:52 pmI've been trying to figure out a way for a team to move the ball against MSU. It's going to take a super-talented offense. Oregon did it but a lot of that was due to their OL being so massive and strong. SDSU's OL was good too and Mason had a good game 15-23-0 163 yards and 1 TD, but SDSU only had 260 yards and just 4.4 per play. MSU's defense seems to be playing with a lot more confidence now.
MSU's defense was on the field for 78 plays last week. They didn't show any signs of slowing down late in the game and if anything, they wore down NAU. Lots of rotation. Pennington threw 31 passes in the first half. He wasn't very effective. I'm not sure how much speed ISU has but even if they're as fast and talented as Oregon, I don't think their OL is anywhere near as good as Oregon's.
Vigen is saying that ISU is a whole different offense than they've seen all year, so maybe they got a twist that'll be effective. I have a hard time predicting anyone is going to score more than 10 points on MSU's defense until I see someone do it.

ISU QB didn't seem to want to run last week. Had several plays he had a lane and never took off.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 1:20 pmI’d imagine ISU is watching a lot of what Mercyhurst did in the pass game. He’s a self-proclaimed pocket passer. Doesn’t like to run but he moved and bought time vs UM a few times.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 7:06 pmISU QB didn't seem to want to run last week. My impression of MSU’s defense is that it’s a one-size fits all concept. So, if you’re disciplined and skilled/talented it’s tough to beat up too bad. But football is a random game so nothing is foolproof.

Last drive he threw to endzone I think all 4 of last plays. Last play and I believe 1 other he had room to scramble and they had time to run and still get plays off. Can be pocket passes but if can't scramble that seems like it makes dropping LB easier if 4 MA rush can get pressureTomCat88 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 8:20 pmHe’s a self-proclaimed pocket passer. I could be wrong, but it looked like one of Cooke’s legs was heavily wrapped.

He was injured vs UNLV, played through it vs SUU, then had surgery and missed the New Mex. game. He was back for Lincoln but played sparingly before returning fully for the UNC and UM games.

Being a pocket passer has its pluses and minuses. The minus is roughly as you described. A plus is they don't give up on the receivers, and the receivers and OL know that.tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Oct 07, 2025 8:30 pmLast drive he threw to endzone I think all 4 of last plays.
