I have thought for a long time that Vegas should try to host all 4 lower division championships the same weekend. Start Thursday night with Div 3. Friday night Division 2 or NAIA. Saturday morning play the other game and finish Saturday night with the Cats whom ever gets ready for the beat down.
They do exactly that with the Nevada high school championships. It’s a great idea, and they know how to do it.

I think I read somewhere that the Stadium in Frisco is going under renovations so the capacity was severely limited after this game for a few years. The NCAA probably said no bueno so an alternate spot would be necessary.

It also highlights something that been in the back of my head. Lets say they do announce a big stadium reno for Bobcat stadium. December to early August would be a severely tight timeline for a project that big. What would be the options for MSU? Have a season with just the end zone and West open? Play at Washedup gris for a season (gross)?
How far we (the Bobcats) have come. Does anyone remember playing at Van Winkle during the stadium upgrade? Was it when Gatton moved to Reno H Sales, or was it the “press box” renovation?
I remember the Gatton/Reno H Sales upgrade.

Was when Gatton moved to Reno Sales. I received some very dubious honors that mom would not have approved of attending the games at the high school and the first game played at Sales. Oooofta.

Sam's now reporting that along with Frisco and Nashville, St. Louis, Houston, and Kansas City have submitted bids to host the game next 2 years.

I would personally like to see and warm weather climate host. I'd prefer to travel to Tampa or San Diego in January although KC for beer and BBQ would be pretty sweet.

KC would be great, haven't been there for 40 years, but the food was great back then.

Other than the Vegas pipe dream, seems like keeping it in the Dallas area is the simplest option. There are several schools in the area with stadiums that could potentially work (North Texas, TCU, SMU) and it's relatively good for travel and accommodations.

I recall that when Frisco and Chattanooga were bidding on hosting that the NCAA had a requirement that the FCS championship not be played in a FBS or NFL stadium. This policy must have disappeared.

I'm surprised Choctaw Stadium (former Texas Rangers ballpark) isn't in the discussion.
Maybe it's too small an event for Arlington who are used to Super Bowls, Cotton Bowls, and Word Series?

I haven’t seen the article, but I am guessing huge venues will be discounted by the NCAA because the FCS title game won’t attract 50,000 they won’t want a game with a lot of empty seats. Maybe all of these cities have soccer stadiums similar to Frisco with 25,000 to 30,000?

I have thought about this as well. I think they’d have to start by adding seats in the open end zone (either bowled or corner pieces) to negate some of the net loss during east side renovation. I doubt demolition of the east side takes long, but rebuilding would need to be done in phases especially with the potential of more boxes. I know the initial renderings on the facilities master plan showed the lower bowl seating from the Sonny Holland end zone kind of continuing around the whole stadium—maybe they start with the N. end zone seating, then east side tear down and lower seating established, then finally upper east side seating and boxes last? 3-4 off seasons of work, with only one full season losing significant seating on the east side (partially negated by N. End zone seating). With the IPF slowly nearing completion, I’d expect to hear something at least about expected timeline for stadium renovations in the near future…
