The women get some help today as Sac State came back in the fourth quarter to win at SUU. That puts MSU alone in 2nd and 1/2 game behind ISU for first.

Great news. I’m not surprised that Sac State won. That’s about the best outcome that we could have gotten after Thursday night. 💙 💛 😺

Great win for the women, to come back after that disappointment in Cedar City. They still looked tired, but finally dropped some shots. Ava gave them a few pretty good minutes, bolstered by an accidental bank shot, and she drilled two free throws. Taylor looked useful in the first part of the game, then was noticeably hesitant, and I don’t know if she played in the second half. Kola played well but got in foul trouble. Gabby was strong inside, even though outsized again, and absolutely drilled her three point shots once she got going. Limardo (Limbardo to the announcers) took a lot of bumps and bruises and got called for a foul when she got raked across the face. The game got off to a bad start with two video reviews for flagrant fouls, but after what looked like warnings from the lead official, the teams backed off some on the fouling, at least until late. A tough last couple of games, at the only two schools where we have an elevation disadvantage. Probably good to go 1-1, but oh so close to 2-0. Good, tough team.
Felt like Groundhog Day as our double-digit lead in the 4th started to evaporate. Several mental mistakes in the last minutes that made things closer than they needed to be. Gritty win.

NAU’s #13 got away with two flagrant fouls, especially one where she flat out clocked Ranson.
Thank you. I didn’t want to be the first one to point that out. She peeked at Ava first, and then just brought that ball up with that elbow firmly planted underneath her chin. I thought she might have knocked her cold. Was she the same one that tried to give Katelyn a facelift?
Not sure, but she got a good clothesline on Kola. Actually, she nailed Ava before she got the ball. Right cross to the jaw to create separation then put her hands up looking for the ball.

Looked her up. Redshirt soph Sierra Mich’l. Has 48 fouls in 177 min played. Went to HS at Desert Oasis HS, about 3 miles from my house.

I was at both mens games this week. I swear they can’t hit the two or three foot shots. I don’t know why. Drives me nuts watching it.

Sac is red hot with wins in 9 of the last 10. Hope they are on the other side in Boise. TBH I hope the ladies get the teddy bears to the west in the semis. We got their number.

Well it’s a win, but there’s something missin with this team. Darian is an awesome player, but with a little discipline in her game and more emphasis on team, she could be the best in MSU history. It pains me that the other 4 MSU players on the court are more focused on watching what Darian is going to do than playing their own game. I often see us going on huge runs when Darian is getting a rest, because the other players have to contribute. In my opinion, they’re either going to win in Boise or go home the first day!
Don't blame the other 4 players

Agree! I think it’s a coaching thing! This team has amazing talent, but Binford is going to have to reign in White on her off nights. She’s a baller, but this team has enough shooters that if White has an off night they can still win. Unfortunately if she’s going 1-13 it’s tough on the team. I’d like to see more from Bad Bear and Jannssen. Against Idaho……. White was the difference, but in our best games everybody contributes. Not being negative …… just want the team to be a team! That’s when we’re at our best!

Wow, tough crowd on here tonight after the MSU women have reeled off 9 wins in their last 10 games and to sit 1/2 game out of 1st place. Nobody would've predicted a 11-3 conference record as MSU was getting blown out game after game in November, I think Coach Binford knows what she's doing.

And 2 of those 9 wins were against the top 2 teams in conference….Idaho State (by 16 pts!) and today Southern Utah. They are certainly building momentum. I hate that we have to play them at their house last week before tourney….

I would not trade Darian White for any other player in the conference. It's way more than scoring. The pressure she puts on the other team is immense. Even on off shooting games she gets to the line a lot, gets defenders in foul trouble, and with her in we're pretty much unpressable. Then there's the steals, assists, and rebounds. I think heavy legs slower her down a little this weekend, but watch out next week after she's rested.

I believe the point is when your star point guard is having an off night, coach around it.

Darian was off the past 2 games, and not just shooting. Coach around it.

What do you mean "coach around it"? Darian took 13 shots Thursday and 10 today, it's not like she was firing up brick after brick while nobody else got a chance. The whole team looked a step slow at the end of a 4-city road trip to play 3 games.

No one said trade her. The comment was that she’s better when she plays team ball. It is a team game! They judge the season on wins, not the stats for one player. Darian is a helluva a player. I just think we have a lot of other pieces on the team. Heavy legs is why it’s better if she demands more on offense out of her teammates. Maybe focus on improving her entry pass capabilities. Michael Jordan didn’t win championships until he trusted Kerr and Paxson. I’m a huge fan of her game, but the team does have enough talent to win the conference and it would be difficult for Darian to do it by herself!

When Darian is missing her trademark elbow jumper, change the offense. I think the biggest problem right now is Darian isn't a 3 pt threat. Defenders sag off her when she is outside and collapse on her when she drives. That makes it very difficult for her to get off a good shot. Coach around it. Have her drive with other players moving out that she can kick it out to. This happened once today beautifully. Darian drove, defense collapsed on her, she passed to Kola for an easy 18 footer.

Opposing coaches are figuring how to defend Darian so Binford needs to change how Darian is being used.
