Re: WBB vs Sacramento
The Hornets outrebounded the Cats 27-18 in the 1st half, but the Cats outrounded the Hornets 32-17 in the 2nd half. Between the two teams there were 94 rebounds which... seems like a lot. But when both teams shoot under 30%, there's gonna be a lot of rebounds.

I always love looking through Sac State WBB box scores. It's no wonder there were that many rebounds when the two teams combined to go 18 of 72 on 3-pointers. That averages out to 1.4 missed threes per minute of play, which is absolutely crazy.CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 9:55 amThe Hornets outrebounded the Cats 27-18 in the 1st half, but the Cats outrounded the Hornets 32-17 in the 2nd half. Well I hope SUU wins Friday and stays on the other side of the bracket...they moved into #5 seed overall after Wednesday. A last game win by SUU could move them into #4....a loss by SUU and Griz loss keeps them at #5. Both scenarios would be on other side of the bracket.MSU01 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 8:56 pmSUU is pretty good, but I'm thinking MSU would much rather have them as a QF opponent than a team like NAU. SUU lost to Sac State and needed 2 overtimes to beat Weber, so they haven't exactly shown a whole lot when they've played the worst teams in the league. They do have the nice home win over NAU and a road win against UNC, which is pretty much it in terms of wins against decent teams.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:48 pmMight be shaping up to play SUU in the 2nd round? SUU beat NAU this weekend. They're pretty good. They just haven't played enough games so they're seeded at the bottom.
I know people are discounting SUU but they are still an enigma to me. They beat both Portland State and UNC who split with the Cats. They played Idaho to a 5 point game in Idaho. They have the nice win over NAU and a split with Sac State in their home-home series games. They also beat a 16-6 team of Grand Canyon University. With a win they would finish 12-7 overall (7-4 league) in a season that is probably one of the most disjointed in the Big Sky due to numbers of their cancellations....have they really been able to reach their potential with the disruptions in their schedule and practice?
Yes you can say my concern is foolish because they didn’t play Idaho State, MSU or Montana...Ok I get it. But they still have the leading scorer in the conference, 2 of the top 4 rebounders in the conference are from SUU, as a team they are the #1 rebounding margin team in the conference (an MSU weakness), they are #3 in the conference in FG percentage. I still think they could surprise someone in the tourney. Guess that’s why we play the game...paper analysis is exactly worth nothing.

Re: WBB vs Sacramento
Remember in past years they played “speed ball” the whole game..press....pressure D.....fast break...platoon substitutions. It was a fast paced style of play and you saw some interesting stats as you note. They have moved away from that style of play but boy you are right there was a lot of shooting and not a whole lot of making last night!! Don’t know that I have ever seen a stat like that....1.4 missed 3s per minute...that’s hard to do!MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 1:41 pmI always love looking through Sac State WBB box scores. Wasn’t there a couple plays like that in the game? Both were excellent plays and good toss outs to save the ball for the Cats. I can’t remember who did the other one...but maybe I was dreaming?Bobcat4Ever wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 4:02 amOh, yes! I’m glad you mentioned it. Might have been the play of the game. She didn’t just give it a blind heave-ho, she knew Martell (I think it was) should be open in the other corner and she was. Unbelievable execution.
I also loved the hustle on the boards (but not all the shooting) when they missed a free throw for 1, got the rebound, missed about three put backs for 2, got the rebound each time, and finally hit a 3! Talk about high-grading.

My wife is always impressed by offensive rebounding numbers. I try to tell her that offensive rebounds are sort of like errors — if you play perfectly you win’t leave any!CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 9:55 amThe Hornets outrebounded the Cats 27-18 in the 1st half, but the Cats outrounded the Hornets 32-17 in the 2nd half. Re: WBB vs Sacramento
Good thoughts guys. I’d rather not see either NAU or SUU in a quarter final game and if I’m reading the tea leaves correctly and the space time continuum doesn’t get disrupted, we won’t see either of them. Yes, SUU moved into 5th and pushed UM down to 6th and as near as I can tell the only way for that to flip back would be if SUU lost to PSU and UM would have to beat UI. Nothing else flips that and while Suu could lose their game I just don’t see UM winning their game. So if all goes as it should then here is how the women’s big sky bracket should start.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 2:39 pmWell I hope SUU wins Friday and stays on the other side of the bracket...they moved into #5 seed overall after Wednesday. Game 1 PSU vs. EWU winner to play ISU in game 4
Game 2 NAU vs. WSU winner to play UI in game 6
Game 3 UM vs. SAC winner to play MSU in game 7
then Tuesday
Game 4 ISU vs. PSU
Game 5 UNC vs. SUU
Game 6 UI vs. NAU
Game 7 MSU vs. UM
Wednessday
Game 8 ISU vs. ?unc/suu?
Game 9 MSU vs. UI
Friday MSU beats ISU for the championship

I’d expect UM to win their opening game and lose to MSU which would put us in the semi game against UI most likely. Even though we dominated UM in our 2 wins over them it would be a dangerous thing to look past them.

2nd game looking almost as sloppy at the first but we've scratched to a 12 point lead at halftime. I've seen Martell hit several threes...and miss quite a few too. Sac is getting a lot of free throws.

Third quarter is the Darian White show. Two strait steals and layups and we're up by 16. Sac State still going to line almost every possession.

Can't seem to blow it wide open, but keeping it in double digits. Martell has 23. Up 14 deep into the 4th quarter.

Beattie has a really nice looking shot. Martell's heir apparent hits two baseline threes and the lead stretches to 20...but then Sac goes back to the free throw line.

Bobcats win 81-66. Sac State gets 30 free throws (made 20). Home cookin' didn't help.

Pretty high expectations for Tori there!!! Ha! Couldn’t have missed too many!! 5 of 7 from arc in first half and 7 of 12 for the game.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 2:52 pm2nd game looking almost as sloppy at the first but we've scratched to a 12 point lead at halftime. Tori has been invited to the NCAA Final 4 to participate in the 3-point shooting contest!! So she is recognized nation wide.

Ha, you're right! I was watching and listening to the men's game on the TV at the time and the women's on the lap top with no sound. I just expect every one of her threes to go in lately-so a miss stands out.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:57 pmPretty high expectations for Tori there!!! Ha! They were pretty shots indeed!!! And beyond her shot I like the way she gets in the middle of the “scrum” and hustles on D.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 3:37 pmBeattie has a really nice looking shot. This was a good way to end the season and head into the Big Sky tourney. Lots of minutes and success for nearly everyone and It would seem in as good health as can be asked for. It is really nice to see Skye coming along with more time, she will be needed as the tournament grinds on. It was also awesome to see the passing today and Beattie draining 3 of 3 from the arc.

Re: WBB vs Sacramento
Well crap. When I posted that I had no idea that U Idaho would be playing this game with only 8 players. The announcers couldn’t give the reason why so many players were out but one has to suspect Covid. To give some perspective on who Idaho is missing tonight, they are missing their 2nd and 3rd highest scorers who also happen to be their two highest minute players on the season but at least they have their 14th, 1th, and 10th highest scorers. It will take a huge effort for Idaho to beat UM in this one. SUU did win their game against PSU. but amazingly UI is ahead by 14 with 3 minutes to go. but Natalie Klinker just fouled out.
