Re: Raise a little hell - trooper (3rd down song)
Frankly, I am embarrassed that we need a song to get the crowd going on third down.
Our crowd should be bringing the noise on its own on every play. Things are pretty quiet on 1st and 2nd down.
Kudo's to the student section......in the 1st half. They were on their feet the whole half. About a third of them must have had too much sun because they didn't come back for the 2nd half.

I like Raise a little hell. I think any of em can get old. Nice for an occasional change though.
Just watched NDSU EWU game on youtube, heard it more than once.
Yes, somehow those unintelligent North Dakotans figure out how to get a high quality recording on youtube less than 24 hrs after every game.
And somehow the program still grows when the public has easy access.

Seems like there used to be somebody(s), when the Sonny Holland Zone was brand new, that was making sure it got loud over there when the opposition was backed up there.
All said though I am excited about the expedient responses by Bethany Cordell.( Wasn't there some that said the staffs don't pay attention to BN threads!)

Please God no more star wars... It's terrible for sports. I also support hell's bells for third down. I also have seen teams use turn down for what on 3rd down which is great for us younger folks haha

I heard students as I walked by the student section chanting "cats cats cats cats cats cats" like you would "shots shots shots shots shots". I think if we could play the background to that song and get everyone chanting like that, it might work well.

Turn down for what is a great suggestion, so long as you start playing it soon enough to get past the build up intro portion. The student section should get ROWDY once the main beat drops!Caboose wrote:Please God no more star wars... It's terrible for sports. I also support hell's bells for third down. This song isn't a runout song, but it is fitting for the first defensive series especially since the defense has begun to reemerge.

That Star Wars song made me cringe every time it was played. It doesn't suggest or promote energy for a football game and just doesn't relate to sports. At this point I'd almost anything but that.
And I know it's been brought up before, but when are we ever gonna hear Cat Scratch Fever that fits PERFECTLY?

Agreed, the energy level demands we find a place or places for this!catsrback76 wrote:A great run out song/video should include this season...
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Re: Raise a little hell - trooper (3rd down song)
I don't have a problem with the song at all. I like the song. I just don't think its a very good third down song. If the crowd was on its feet every time it was played....then so be it, but when most of the crowd is still lulling around....it doesn't work. I didn't think it worked last year. Honestly, I thought the crowd last year was the worst crowd since the new end zone, as far as noise made by the crowd. I thought the selections last year created too many lulls, and I thought that its continued this year through the first game. I will say that the crowd has to "learn" to do things as well. If a song is going to be played for something like 3rd down, the announcer needs to say something to the effect of "its third down Cat fans, get up on your feet and make noise" and then play the song. Pavlov's dogs....Eventually as the song plays, the crowd will follow without prompting by the announcer. Also, play some country. We live in Montana. Look how everyone goes nuts for Chicken Fried in the Dark Pink stadium. That, while not a song you would play to get keyed up, was played right from the onset when the song was popular, so it worked. With repetition, like Sweet Caroline, it has become a song that works still. It would not work for us. Its popularity has waned. But please, Bethany, do not be afraid to try something. If you have an idea, run with it. If it doesn't work, then move on. I suggested it in a PM to you, but I really think it would be benificial to have a "spotter" above the new end zone. Since there are no speakers above it and that crowd is dependant on the speakers from the scoreboard. With the current volume, a song that is blasting behind the crowd on the west side stands, effects the crowd differently than the crowd in the end zone.BethanyCordell wrote:I think I must be lucky in life to have never hated a song so much that I wanted to smash my face on a brick wall.
I love music discussions, though, so let's keep it up! 'Raise a little hell' was played on 3rd downs last year, so my crew decided to keep rolling with that for the first game this season to see how the crowd responded and for the sake of not changing EVERYTHING right away.
We've gotten mixed reactions on this particular song, but a lot of our guys like it, and that's important, too.
I'd love to hear your suggestions though, so please let me know if you think you've got the perfect 3rd down beat. I plan to play with it a bit these first three games until we find the right one for Bobcat Stadium.

Start this when Nelly comes in on the remix

Start at the chorus

and this needs to happen, again start at the chorus. Not really a pumped up song, but people would be grooving.

Just a couple ideas off the top of my head.

On the same subject, don't ever add Cotton-Eyed Joe to your playlist, its a dark pink anthem too.BethanyCordell wrote:Thanks for the feedback, and honestly I had no idea that UM played it so the decision to play that song wasn't made 'to copy them.' We actually just filled some empty space with that song, they didn't take the field to it... We made the decision to have the entire band on the field this year to play the fight song for the team to run out to, which we got a lot of great feedback on. Hopefully that helps clarify!Camo_Cat wrote:Bethany - we played the "Bring 'Em Out" song by T.I. yesterday prior to our guys taking the field. While that seems like a pretty cool run-out song for the team to enter the stadium, it's long been played by the morons in maroon over at dUMb when their team takes the field. Can we play something original??? Seemed like we were just copying that other team.BethanyCordell wrote:I think I must be lucky in life to have never hated a song so much that I wanted to smash my face on a brick wall.

Hells Bells for 3rd down gets my vote too.
On a related note, I know when I was in school and just before kickoff as the teams are jumping up and down right before play starts we played "The Kids Aren't Alright" by The Offspring. The student section would go NUTS, got my juices flowing for sure.

Hells Bells and only Hells Bells for 3rd down. To think you can get any better of a 3rd down song than Hells Bells is outrageous.
The Star Wars song was absurd.

Re: Raise a little hell - trooper (3rd down song)
Hells Bells immediately after 2nd down concludes. Works the crowd into a frenzy every time. At one point I did hear the "backing up" beeping sound. I think it was after a Sack. That was awesome!!! More of that please. The Star Wars stuff wasn't any good.
For the love of all things Bobcat, never ever play that damm song cotton eye joe.
Colter would honestly be a good person to ask about what's played in Maroonville.
Also, never been a fan of the Rock this House cheer. Seems like it's too forced and too slow to develop. The cheer squad stands there and patiently waits for the lead in music or commentator. That's got to be a "let's ride this wave of emotion" cheer. Race out to their spots and start screaming. The crowd will follow. Otherwise it just seems dumb.

Watched the hells bells video that was posted and that bell made me miss it more than I already did. It is simply the perfect 3rd down song. PLEASE, bring it back.
I second the "rock this house" complaint. At its best it's still pretty lame.
