It cracks me up; the last 4 people that have come through have all wanted to go to Olive Garden. I think that Olive Garden kind of sucks, especially with all the other choices there are in Billings. It probably is even worse when people want to go to Hooters when they are in NYC! People have strange tendencies.
Heh...I've had people come visit me here and want to go to the Olive Garden in Times Square, too. That's even worse than coming here and wanting to go to Hooters, IMO -- aside from the fact that Olive Garden isn't all that great, Italian food is *THE* cuisine that New York City is most known for. If you walk from my apartment to Olive Garden (about eight blocks), you literally walk right past about half a dozen truly awesome Italian restaurants on the way, and some of them aren't really any more expensive than Olive Garden either.

They guy who owns the Hooters territory rights for Spokane has a place in the 9 mile (west of Missoula) and is a big supporter of the auction for the UM Rodeo team, so it is not like they don't know about Montana.

Probably a bigger problem is Montana's liquor license laws that prohibits out of state owners - this was recently overturned by the state supreme court, so expect to see a lot more chain restaurants (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Red Robin, etc) start moving into the big 7. Personally I'm hoping for a Spaghetti Factory. I could do without the Olive Garden.

The new Romeo's at SW Higgins and High Park-Stephens will be killer. They have a little closet next to the Social Security Office across the parking lot from Silver Tip right now. Awesome Italian food at a great price.

Screw the Italian chains.

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

Just to sabotage the chain restaurants in favor of the mom and pop real restaurants, it should be known that most of the chains (Applebees, etc.) prepare their food at a central location and ship it frozen to the franchises. They basically just reheat the stuff and serve it at the local level.

So yes, eat at real restaurants, and maybe the scourge of strip-mall chain restuarants will eventually die off. In most suburban areas now, you can't tell where you are at unless you see a town sign -- it's the exact same restaurants in the exact same relationship to all of other chains. It's kind of sad.

Personally I like Olive Garden and am looking forward to going there plenty in the near future. Yes it's a chain, but my stomach couldn't care less when it's going down and it's aaah..yummmmy.

If you find yourself in Belgrade looking for someplace to eat, the Bar 3 BBQ is good and I like the atmosphere in the refurbished brick building on Main Street. Lots of folks from Bozeman come to Belgrade to eat at the Mint as well-it's nice place but I like the Oasis in Manhattan better.

Also, for breakfast or lunch in Belgrade-the Duck In is just er...ducky!

The #1 thing I miss about living in a metropolitan area is THE FOOD!!!

I'm constantly amazed at what passes for "good food" in Kalispell. Applebee's food doesn't even rise to the level of BLAND, IMO, and yet it is packed for lunch & dinner EVERY DAMN DAY here.

Don't get me wrong, there are a handful of decent restaurants in the Flathead, but just not enough variety to satisfy anyone who truly enjoys a great meal. Heck, we only have 1 Mexican restaraunt in the area and it's below average. Why does it seem that the average Montanan can't stand some chiles or garlic or ANYTHING that actually adds a little flavor to a meal? Around here, it seems the Mexican tastes just like the Italian, which tastes just like the steaks and chicken and burgers etc...

I had to laugh at the Olive Garden comments because I'm so starved for some food with a little "pizazz" (not pizza) that I'm hoping they'll come here soon; I agree that their food isn't great but it would be an improvement in Kalispell.

Not to nitpick, but he was criticizing your *taste* in universities. That doesn't necessarily imply that you went to UM. If he had said something like "your choice of restaurants is about as crappy as the university that you chose to attend," then *that* would imply that he assumed that you went there, but what he actually said does not.

Not true. As I posted on the other site as well Cheyenne, WY has one and it isn't over about 50,000.
I was implying a startup place - like was stated, Cheyenne has one because of its proximity to Denver.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.
