Bars in Bozeman

the Cannery would be a great bar if you could breathe in it. even for smokers it's hard to breathe. R Bar would rival any classy bar ( bac-even in SF) Crystal is just best place to unwind.

I voted for Molly Brown because of live poker, lots of pool tables and foosball tables, and there are always some cute girls in there.

But last time I was there, I puked in the urinal (haha) and then went outside for some air, when I tried to get back in the bouncer said "sorry the bartender says you are too drunk." I got so pissed, I wasn't that drunk, I just drank a bad Irish Car Bomb, that's all. And there was someone in the only toilet they have in there, it was the urinal or the floor, next time I'll just puke on the floor.

So I'm pissed at the Molly but I'll still go with it as my fav, but they didn't care when I puked in the urinal at the Hideaway. Me and urinals...

Way off topic, but your post reminded me... it could have been worse for you. The last time I was in Vegas, one of the guys I was with puked right at the bar in Coyote Ugly. They were not impressed -- they even had someone make an annoucement on the stage to remind people to at least make it to the bathroom if the had to hurl. They would have really appreciated a concientious puker like you that night.

Sorry, back to the Bozeman bars conversation.

For drinking and seeing people, I say the R Bar (and contrary to the groundswell, I like new better than old -- I like enclosed bathrooms and floors my shoes don't stick to). For a place that really adds a new dimension to Bozeman and is a very tastefully designed and cool hangout, I have to go with Plonk. It's by far the coolest wine bar in Bozeman (irony intended).

Specators is near the movie theaters on campus and the Eagles is essentially at the East End of downtown on the south side of the street.

Literary nugget -- The Eagles was the favorite Bozeman bar hangout of Richard Brautigan (famous writer and poet of the 50's through the 80's who eventually killed himself -- was a heavy drinker, of course) during the years he had a place in Livingston.

Gary I hope you are kidding! Specs is across from the Field House in that little strip mall where the Hinky Dink use to be, and Eagles is across from the Zebra.

No Mike, I'm not. You know me. I have my routine. After the game I hang out at the tailgates and then either head back to Big Sky or to either the Cannery, the R Bar or Red's. I need to try something new.

my wife likes to yap. by now I'm sure you've already learned that. those Jewish Princess girls all talk too much (her family is full of them!!!) But, she's a good wife. certainly didn't marry me for money, she married poor. I on the other hand married her for her daddy's money

i'll get my a** kicked when she reads that

as for her enraging BAC, she does it to her "other" cowboy in Missoula as well. A friend and fellow AGR brother of BAC's. that's okay, because real men can handle the heat AND stay in the kitchen. those "other" cowboys can't handle a firm woman who knows what she wants. Besides she tells me all the time men are intimidated by women they can't impress. Ain't no wallet fat enough to impress her, she's already had that, grew up with all. fame doesn't impress, most brats have known famous people during their lives. football didn't impress her, hell she had an all-american, all-pac ten prior to MSU, and he went NFL, BUT not as sexy as a Bobcat.

I'll let her have my handle, she needs to yap to someone else. sometimes my ears get tired.

A hate to say this but I think you have spent too much time in the Bay Area if your favorite bar in Bozeman is the Plonk... I understand, I lived in Marin County for 7 months, but COME ON...THE PLUNK...Isn't that like saying "Queer Eye for the Strait Guy" is the best show on TV

hey, just read hubby's post. anyone know the best way to skin a bobcat? Meat any Griz theories here i could use to inflict the max amount of pain? Or may be GrizLaw could hook me up with a referral and squeeze really hard. But, Oh so true about "other" cowboy not being able to handle me. as for BAC - i like the debates. I do think SF has ruined the nice farm boy from Winifred. turned BAC to the "dark side".

as for me I like the OLD R bar and Crystal.

I didn't say it was my favorite bar in Bozeman (that would be the R Bar, per my previous post) ... but it is a cool place to hang out. I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality to spend quality time at wine bars without feeling apologetic. I am also aware that wine makes women even drunker and more open-minded than beer because it tastes better and has more alcohol by volume. Of course, if you don't like women, then avoiding wine bars is a really good idea.

The Queer Eye show gets kind of old after awhile, but it was interesting the first couple times I saw it.

I was pretty bad at the farm boy thing, so I had no choice. Although even back then, I felt the pull of the "dark side." If only I knew how to type out the darth vader cliche breathing thing, that would have been cool....

Back to the bars ... I think I hit virtually every downtown place that serves alcohol each time I come to town. I am a bar-hopping by habit (as opposed to those who like to camp at one place most of the night), and downtown Bozeman is perfect for that. You get a good variety of places along the way, which is always nice. You hang out with the Cowboy crowd for awhile, then the stoners, then the old guys, then the hip hop clubbers, then the wine crowd, and then the Cowboys again. It's kind of an around the world party each time I hit the bars there.

My buddies and I have a route we follow too. We start off at the Cannery and have a couple of drinks and start complaining that the drinks are too expensive. We then go to the Crystal (up to the Rooftop if it is open) and have a bunch of drinks there during “Power Hour” and after awhile we decide to go to the R Bar. After being at the R Bar for awhile we start complaining that it is too snotty and we all head down to the Legion. Once we get to the Legion we get pissed because it is empty so we head back to the Crystal and usually finish the night there.

BAC - if you've turned completely to the dark side try Moscato D'Asti import wine section , it's from Italy and your dates will love how nicely it goes down. If you can't find it there the Wine Haus in Seaside, OR ships, but you should find it easily. oh, and wine tours in Napa are good, but don't be unoriginal about it. Several wineries there and in Sonoma also have polo teams, and it's a nice outing to go drink good wine, pack a picnic and watch live polo. it was always enjoyable to go catch a match or two at our friends winery, but now more matches are open to the public. The drive is worth it, and if you're in Napa dinner at Mustards is a shoe in with women. Just don't bring that nasty one from the office

Back in my day it was the magic triangle. Molly Brown, Haufbrau, and the Scoop. Molly Brown was my favorite, where the now president of the Quarterback Club Larry Aasheim would bring pitchers to you for $1.35 if I remember right.
