iaafan, I concur on your assessments. The unknown variable(and possible deciding factor) is academics. Whatever his major is or wants it to be may be a factor. Transferring of credits and the amount needed to transfer to be eligible to play next fall may be a factor. Transferring from a qtr. based program to another qtr. based program vs a semester system may be a factor. Being able to participate(or having to if not necessary)in Spring Football may be a factor. I wonder if he has a girlfriend...that can be a factor. I do think it will be a big plus for whoever gets him but in the same breath i think the schools who don't will be OK...

Yeah, if we consider the entire state I'd probably take Montana over Idaho for the hunting--if I could ever draw an either sex permit for one of the breaks elk. Too old to go into the Bob anymore. Fishing? Sounds like you're as addicted to big fish as I am, therefore...but...it's been over thirty years since Wally Cox taught me how to catch the browns running below Toston. Don't know if they still come up out of Canyon Ferry but that would help. Just saying it's hard to convince a kid from one of our surrounding states to go to Bozo for just the hunting and fishing.

Speaking of that, grad - (We kind of hijacked this thread but oh well, now it's fishing so all etiquette is out the window...) I got an email yesterday that showed a new state record Brown. Not sure if it was legit but it looked real to me. 31 pounds, 35 inches, caught through the ice at Clark Canyon Reservoir. Would be the biggest salmonid ever in MT. Caught on Tuesday I believe.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

I've heard that Canyon Ferry is pretty much being taken over by Walleye. Hardly any Perch in there anymore. The Trout numbers have also been dwindling. I love Walleye/Norther Pike/Bass fishing the best so Nelson/Ft. Peck are the place I usually fishing the most. And don't forget that Bozeman is not only close to the Madison/Gallatin/Yellowstone, but its within driving distance of the BigHorn river as well (awesome fishing on the BigHorn).Cat Grad wrote:Yeah, if we consider the entire state I'd probably take Montana over Idaho for the hunting--if I could ever draw an either sex permit for one of the breaks elk. Yeah, Wade Lake close to Hebgen holds the state record for German Brown (29 pounds) as well. Awesome lake to Scuba Dive in as well during the summer if you like clear water. It offers some of the best diving in Montana as far as clear water (Carribean Blue almost).Cat Grad wrote:Can't forget about the 42 pound laker from Flathead this summer; isn't Clark Canyon just outside of Dillon? Hebgen has some HUGE browns in it that you have to spend a lot of nights fishing just like Flaming Gorge...

Well, if we look at the map of Montana, we see a 42 pound laker from Flathead Lake, a 32 pound rainbow from the Kootenaii River just below Lake Koocanusa, the 32 pound brown from Clark Canyon and that big brown that was taken with a pitchfork out of Wade and hundreds of twenty pound browns taken from Hebgen, and we see a pattern...just don't know why I'm in here "working" today because after I cross the dam at Ft. Peck heading for Bozo this afternoon to meet the wife and kids coming from the Flathead to the Super 8 in Belgrade, it'll be close to dark...might not be able to get any fishing in tonight, but in the morning...
