I've never committed to a job for less than one year and I've kept my word for a hell of a lot less

Yes, It is becoming clear that Montana's two row malt barley crop that has subsidized the College of Ag for years, was THE deterrent for his continuance. He told me first of all, they were all VERY surprised that we even had a shot at Brennan and that Brennan accepted the job, as he is considered a "rock star" in the athletic admin world. He didn't say positively what changed Kyle's mind, but he thinks it was the University of Utah. After Brennan accepted the MSU position, he thinks Utah made him an offer he couldn't refuse. Most likely an immediate salary increase and put it in writing that he would be the next AD at Utah. He also thinks the additional resources for care for his son were a factor and said that Kyle absolutely felt horrible for backing out of the MSU job after he accepted it. Sounds like Kyle Brennan is a really good guy and it had nothing to do with Bozeman or MSU, he was actually really excited to come here. Most likely said housing was the cause of him changing his mind because U of Utah wouldn't let him speak publicly about the new offer.

I don't think so. It's one thing to take the job and then turn it down. It's a whole different story when you run your family across a stage. He wanted the job. Things changed.Cledus wrote:I've cooled off after my first post, which was on the side of harsh.
Having said that, I wonder if Brennan was using us as leverage to get a better deal for himself right from the beginning. I'm sure most of us have seen a coworker do that.
