2016 MSU Recruiting - 37 (13 Full/3 Part./12 PWO/9 Tranfers)

For those who have really paid attention to recruiting this year...vim, Colter and anyone else who has insight. Who are the recruits that we have offers to that would be the gems of the class if they committed. I have paid attention to the recruiting board but I just don't have the time/overall knowledge on how to break down someone's film to determine how good they could be other than purely looking at stats which don't paint the whole picture. I know Neale was a huge addition but who else are within his caliber that we have offered?

If you wanna break it down by "stars", here is who I think would be the top gets at each position:

Blake Gregory 6'3", 170 lbs. QB WA Sammamish (2-star)
Theo Dawson 6'2", 222 lbs. RB WY Jackson (2-star) (Wyoming Player of the Year)
John Okwoli 6'3", 205 lbs. WR AZ Phoenix (3-star)
Edward Vander 6'0", 210 lbs. ATH-RB CA Paramount (3-star)
Kayode Awosika 6'5", 255 lbs. OT MN Maple Grove (2-star)
Steven Bailey 6'2", 295 lbs. OG AZ Peoria (2-star)
Omar Dyles 6'1", 285 lbs. DT WA Bellevue (2-star)
Lewis Kidd 6'6", 255 lbs. DE MN Fridley (2-star)
Ryan Bowman 6'1", 248 lbs. Hybrid - DE/LB FL Bradenton (3-star)
Jeremiah Pritchard 6'0", 210 lbs. OLB HI Wahiawa (3-star)
Ryan Boehm 6'3", 225 lbs. MLB CA Temecula (3-star)
Andrew Davis 6'0", 164 lbs. CB CA Upland (3-star)
Kamari Pleasant 6'2", 185 lbs. SS CA Etiwanda (3-star)
Jordan Happle 6'1", 190 lbs. FS OR Portland (2-star)

If we get any of these kids, they would be huge additions. Now that being said, the deepest talent pools in terms of who we have offered is on the DL and OL. The defensive line is spread between the bigger defensive ends and the hybird OLB/DE types. The offensive line is incredibly deep with two-star talent. It will be a fun three weeks.

You like Gregory over Murray? I think both are being under recruited but I am shocked Murray doesn't have bigger offers. He is a GREAT athlete and seems to have very good size. Might have a little bit of an elongated throwing motion but still puts the ball on the money and has good arm strength. Saw the dude outrun entire teams several times on his tape and a 10 minute film on his highlights his senior year!!!!!! What is the knock on him do you know? Seems like the stands were small and empty so maybe a "lack of competition" coming from a smaller CA school?

That being said, Gregory looks like he will be a great college QB too, I would be thrilled with either one.

I'd be happy with either one, and I think we may land Murray this weekend . . . however to me Murray is the better athlete while Gregory is the better quarterback. Murray rarely stayed in the pocket. He would look at the first guy, and if he wasn't open he would take off . . . that wasn't always the case but happened enough. Gregory is a little more polished at this point. With that said, either one would be a fantastic quarterback and would add even more of a battle come fall camp.

I will say this about Murray, at 6-4, he has fantastic speed and if he can get some good coaching may turn into an amazing QB in the Big Sky . . . Murray has a very high ceiling.

EWU is also after Murray and I trust Beau Baldwin's eye for QBs.

Chris Murray definitely has speed. His height also a plus. Makes him a mobile guy that can see the field a little easier.

you could be right about Choate, and I agree either can work

but at this point, I would think Coach Messingham has more of a say in a QB than Choate? Last film on Messingham's offense I've seen, Murray seems to fit better. If no other reason to keep him off the red turf as his home field! I guess I think like a defender; which one would I rather face? I can tell you I wouldn't wanna see Murray behind center any more than VA.

sheesh, we're already prepping for a QB battle with Hoy and a 4-star transfer in the pen for spring ball! but the more the merrier

Murray looks to be able to throw from the pocket with his height even though not on film much.
The plus for me is he is also mobile and runs with confidence.

Unless a QB can read the field like Peyton Manning they are a sitting duck if they can't move.

The following verbally committed players will make official visits this weekend: Karl Tucker, Sean Opland, Derek Marks, Damien Washington, Balue Chapman, Darrius Mosley.

Working on non-committed players visiting but can confirm as posted above that Chris Murray will be in Bozeman. So will offensive lineman Taylor Tuiasosopo. I will have updated lists on our recruiting tables later this week.

Oh man Tuiasopopo is a mauler! Looks like a guy you want to put in a box (guard) and let him go to town. That would also mask his weaknesses in pass protection as a tackle. Looks like Choate really wants to run down people's throats.

The thing is there are about 7-8 (2-star) offensive lineman offered with the same playing style as Taylor so we will probably land one or two of them!

however, for a young QB who may be "underrecruited" there are a few reasons to look at EWU - 3 of their last 4 QB's have played pro ball, and possibly 4 of 4 if VA makes it:

Vernon Adams, UofO showed he's for real, quite possible will play pro
Matt Nicols, QB in the CFL
Bo Mitchell, QB in the CFL
Erik Meyer, QB with stops in the NFL, NFL-Europe, CFL and AFL

they've got a kid named Cupp

they're the last team not named Bison to win an FCS Championship

that's the only appeal I can see -- all football related

I sure hope their time in the sun is over. I just don't get it either - why Cheney? I'd rather live in Butte.

I just think two or three Zack Minter / Cody Widmer type guys would solve most of our D woes, and a Joey Thomas / Rodney Holland prototype CB would seal the deal.

It all kind of depends each year. Every year this question gets asked a lot but the true answer is that the coaches can bring in how many players they want and then adjust the roster accordingly in the spring. We could sign on 30 players if we wanted. Realistically, I'd say we sign between 20-25 kids (includes PWOs and transfers). And you can't really predict how many transfers you bring in during a summer. They kind of just happen if the opportunity presents itself and the fit is right.
