Random stuff 2024

Post by AFCAT » Fri Feb 02, 2024 7:15 pm

I was waiting on this thread to start up again this year and it hasn't yet, so I'm starting it for random stuff like this.

The actor Carl Weathers died yesterday. Obviously, Carl was famous for playing Apollo Creed in Rocky, but did you know he played football against the Cats? Carl and another future actor, Fred Dryer, played football for San Diego State University (SDSU) in the late 1960s. SDSU played a game against the Cats at Gatton Field back on 29 September 1968, winning 34 - 22. Carl and Fred were both defensive lineman in that game. I looked through some newspaper articles on the game but I can't locate any statistics for Carl.

SDSU was coached by none other than Don Coryell. SDSU finished the year with a 9-0-1 record and crowned the college division national champions.

I was at that game.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

That's funny, it showed up in mine too. That's Koni Dole. Seems like he was in Bozeman 20 years ago but he played for Choate I'm pretty sure, so 2016-ish?

He was from Huntley Project (?) and had a bad injury that required amputation. He came back and was able to play somewhat with a prosthetic.

Sometimes when I’m having a bad day, I like to think about all the villages in Africa that Bobby Hauck has clothed with free t-shirts.

This is frigin impressive for anyone, let alone a high school kid. Possible future Bobcat too.

50 yarders using both his left and right legs.

Watching kickers nail field goals against air on an empty field takes on a whole new meaning after last season.

need to put a fence out there representing the dline. Didn't seem to have enough elevation.

It is impressive. I wont question that. But, isnt the kid from Utah who we offered a Partial kicking 60+ yarders?

It’s still pretty good for a kid we are recruiting as a WR

That is impressive, in sort of a novelty way, but as far as translating to anything that could help us win - I'm not seeing it. It's not like he's going to be a switch kicker.

My point was that we can admire his skill, a skill that most people don't have. I don't see a lot of kickers, or wide receivers that also kick, doing that sort of thing. I doubt most people that post here could even hit a 20 yard field goal with their dominant leg. BN is a funny place these days. Just posting the most innocent stuff gets taken out of context.

It’s fun and anecdotal. Remember when Zach Minter had to do kick offs, because our kicker was too sick to make the trip at Eastern Washington

This is the the most pathetic argument online. OP posts something, multiple people react critically in the context of the site where the post is made, OP gets defensive and insults the audience on the site.

Yes, it was kind of cool, but what did you expect people to say? The responses were made in the context of the team's struggles last year.

Quarterback spins football on his index finger.

BN poster #1; "I can't see how that can be used in a game or benefit the team."

BN poster #2; "He should have a faster rotational spin to make it more impressive."

BN poster #3; "Yeah, but can he do that on his pinky finger."

I highlighted the best response. Just admire the skill. Not everything needs to be criticized or read into. This isn't a thread on kicking or kickers, just random stuff to keep people interested in Bobcat football during the offseason. .

Didn't the Idaho kicker do XP and KO with one leg and punt with the other. This is impressive.
