WBB vs Sac State

Post by Catlady » Thu Mar 07, 2019 2:36 pm

Binford has done a great job reinventing this team due to the loss of Lundberg. It’s going to be interesting to see if our guards can make the shot when defenses start to sag on Madeline and Blair. Makes being a head coach easier when you have assistants like Coach Burrows who did an excellent job developing our post players. I like our chances in Boise, but we’ve got to take care of business Thursday and Saturday.

Good win tonight. Sewed up 5th place and the bye with the EWU loss to ISU.

I really enjoyed the game last night! Did a couple Hail Marys that the roof wouldn’t collapse before the game! 😂
The team is playing solid basketball! We need to figure out how to better defend the 3, but I really like us playing inside out.
We could be dangerous if Martell gets her shot back!

And the other bugaboo that bit us badly against both NAU and SUU. According to the official stats, we missed 20 layups in each of those games — NAU (17-37) and SUU (21-41). I think the inside players will be getting better at this new offense and recognizing when the defensive pressure is not in their favor. But a few bunnies were missed, by tradition. It's imperative for winning to get that layup percentage up over 49%. 13-21 (62%) against SAC was better.

Go Cats!

4ever...... how do you calculate lay up percentage? Smith and Braxton have two of the highest Fg % in the conference.

Hi, Catlady. Always enjoy your posts, so happy to help. Just look at the final stats at the end of the game. It gives all the Speciality Statistics like points in the paint, etc. Including layups. 17-37 in one game and 21-41 in the other. That's 38 made of 78 layup attempts in those two games which comes to 49%. It's a team stat, not based on just Smith and Braxton, but anyone that attempts a layup. As I remember in the NAU game Wright missed some, as she only shot 2-9.

The only player at MSU that struggles more with contested layups than Hailey Wright is Keljin Blevins. Fortunately, Hailey has a lot of time work on it and get better.

Got it! I’m not sure why Wright is struggling with lay ups! Must be coming off her knee injury. Thanks for the response. Got me wondering what is a good % of lay ups made?
