What do you hate most in sports?

OK I am in a pissy mood so I wanted to asked the following question to start some generally pissy comments from an otherwise always chipper mood.

. The question

Name the one or two things that you currently Hate about sports?

Caveats for this question poll:
1. This is not an MSU specific poll. I don't want to hear any fire Kramer fire Durham rhetoric. Sports BIG picture.
2. On that same note I a not looking for "the Griz suck" (or the Bobcats....... from our Griz counterparts)
3. Again I am looking for big picture pro or NCAA type stuff, maybe even High school sports.

My pet peeve (Today)

When a Junior coach complains that a coach like Dean Smith (or name your own established coach) gets "all the close call" or "I just wish that there was some equity in the officiating", but when that same coach years later is elevated to the upper level of coaching, changes his tune to "The refs are doing a great job in a difficult situation” or "anyone who claims our team get better calls from the refs simply does not know what they are talking about"

okay my pet peeve has always been the obscene salaries these men and women get to PLAY sports for a living. Well, mostly the athletes whining that the obscene contracts aren't large enough.

Hey you're PAID to play sports, what better job can you have?

Let's see them contribute to society something other than stats.

Everything about the NBA pisses me off. A once-great league has been turned into an embarrassing display of selfishness and cockiness. I yearn for the days of Magic, Larry, and Michael to return... but I doubt they ever will.

1. The NBA, and the ripple effect it's created in basketball. The NBA in most cases is not a team sport but an individual sport. The ripple effect is people just slobber all over these guys like Kobe Bryant who are contantly compared to Michael Jordan but play on a team thats at .500 halfway through the season. MJ had a team around him, thats part of what made him great. The ripple effect I see in some college hoops teams, one player, he shoots too much, and the team wins and loses by his shooting alone. I'm meaning to rip on the guy, but EWU's Stuckey is like that. Amazing talent, and basically he is EWU. People are jumping up and saying he's the MVP, hold your horses, I can think of many other guys who provide a better value to their team, lets see who wins the 'Sky before we crown Stuckey the greatest.

2. Loud Mouth athletes, shut up and play. I'm glad that jerks in sports had a rough 2005. I can't stand people like TO. You're making so much damn money, shut up and catch the ball.

I agree big time with the NBA thing. These selfish guys who get millions and don't go out and play hard just flat out piss me off. I like team players. That's why I don't watch the NBA much anymore.

Any athlete who runs off their mouth and causes problems. I can't stand Terrell Owens or guys like Latrell Sprewell complaining that he can't feed his family at $7 million a year or whatever he's making. Come on.

It's also hard for me to see athletes getting girlfriends right and left and I get to wait longer. I'm just jealous that way.

My last, and maybe biggest, pet peeve is athletes who are on full scholarship and can't make grades. I'm glad they get the boot because the rest of us (with better grades) have to pay for the majority of our college education. Part of that is the state legislature's fault, but don't expect sympathy from me if they can't earn their free education. That's why I ripped into Branden Miller earlier this year.

As much as I like Shaun Alexandar, it makes me sick to hear him talk about how his team was so great this year, they really played like a family, he loved playing with them, they were so tight and close, and they could make it back to the Superbowl, BUT HE JUST DOESN'T KNOW IF THE SEAHAWKS WILL PAY HIM TO STAY.

If it was so much about the team/family, then a few million would be enough to stay. Even for the league MVP and top rusher.

I get really tired of the owners. They demand that their home cities build them a billion dollar sports facility or else they will relocate to another city. Sometimes the stadiums are only 10-15 years old, but they need the latest and greatest. I had read that in baseball when a team gets a new stadium to play in the worth of that team goes up 100%! I do not think building a home court/field for a privately owned sports team should be founded solely by those that live in the city, county, or state, but rather paid for by the owner(s).

I also want to add that I have no problem with the salaries that players receive. If owners are willing to pay them that much money so be it. I would take a job for $7 million a year, so why shouldn’t someone else? As long as people are paying to watch the players play so be it. If the players don’t get the money, then that already extremely rich owners will.

I get really tired of Notre Dame. We get it, you were a power house 20 year ago. Well guess what the rest of college football caught up & in some cases passed you. Your fans are obnoxious & think the sport revolves around them. I am tired of seeing them on TV every Saturday. I get tired of Beano Cook worshipping at their feet.

...and their fans

yes we know that they won umpteen million championships in the past, but arizona, boston, and the white soxs won recent titles and your last one was in 1996, and yet you continue to spend 250 million dollars on a faiding team..

i just wonder how many of them will support the yankees when they start playing like the yankees of the 80's??

I hate the yankees as much as anyone, but you better check that again. They bought...oops I mean won the Series three straight in 98, 99 and 2000.

And the PTI guys, well unfortunately, Kornheiser is going to be doing ESPN Mon Night Football next season with Theisman - THAT WILL SUCK.

Anyone other than Madden is an improvement. One of the things I can't stand most in sports is John Madden.

As the others have said, "show boating" jocks who are in it for the personal accolades and not the team. TO, Bonds, Kobe and Co.

The NBA is worthless.

I too have a hard time even watching the Yankees do anything other than lose.

Ref bashing in the NFL. IMO, they did a better job without the crutch of replay. Just let them make the calls, cause 99% of the time they're right.

Alright, I've been thinking about this for a long time so here goes:

I can't stand sports announcers who, for lack of better terms, lose their tongues in somebody or some team's butt. Key examples:the Patriots (they are not a dynasty nor one of the greatest teams ever people, get over it, they are a good team but do not compare with teams like the Steelers of the 70's, Cowboys of the 90's or Joe Montana/Jerry Rice/Roger Craig etc 49er's) Kobe Bryant (the guy may be able to score 81 points but his TEAM can't win) the Yankees (there were times last season that they were being swept by the Devil Rays (I guess just Rays now) and were in danger of not making the playoffs, but announcers still had a giant hard on for these guys). Finally, JJ Reddick mostly because I dispise the very earth he walks on...great ball player, definatly needs a swift kick to the junk to ease his attitude.

Steriods have ruined the game for many and therefore hate them as well.

Get rid of instant replay. People are going to complain about the calls no matter what.

Fine students for NOT rushing the court after a big upset. Let people be excited about the game. (I'm looking at you SEC).

And finally to quote Crash Davis from Bull Durham:
"I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter."

I'm with you on most of that stuff Coach. As far as the Bull Durham quote, at least there's no more astroturf in the Major Leagues. I really agree with you about the sports announcers. I'll add one thihg to my list.

4. Tim McCarver-the guy is a freaking idiot. He always says something stupid. He annoys the hell out of me. I don't know how Joe Buck can stand him. Buck's dad sure as hell couldn't and he's the hall of famer here. (Jack Buck) I realize that he helped my beloved Cardinals win the World Series over the Yankees in 1964, but that was long before my time. Get rid of Tim McCarver!
