Staying in Reno

Post by 91catAlum » Sun Dec 18, 2016 3:59 pm

My wife and I are planning to go to Reno this year for the Big Sky tourney, but we've never been there. Just wanted to ask about places to stay, for anybody who's familiar with Reno.

We want a decent place to stay, we do like the Vegas strip, so a nicer casino/hotel would be great, but I've heard a lot of them are sketchy/divey in Reno. Also don't know how close that area is to the tourney.

Any suggestions/info appreciated!

down town, 2 blocks from arena are el dorado, silver legacy and circus. all are connected and clean. silver legacy would be the better and newer option. o have stayed in all 3 in the last year.
harrahs is across the street from el dorado. harrahs is also very clean and nice.
down town i would rank them
1. silver legacy
2. harrahs
3. el dorado
4. circus circus.
none of these properties are divr or sketchy

casinos away from down town are nicer though.
Peppermill is probably the best.
Grand sierra is very nice.
Atlantis is very nice
and Nuggett is average.
but all of these properties are within a 10 minutr drive from downtown and arena.
the casinos i listed are clean and safe.
you are fine walking downtown from the casinos to the areas.
Reno is definately not vegas, but still a great to visit. your eating, drinking and gambling dollars will much farther in Reno than vegas.

I only have experience at the Peppermill and Atlantis, both are pretty nice actually. But there is absolutely nothing within short walking distance of either of them.

Peppermill has a nice bar that has like 100 whiskeys and scotches.

I think the Eldorado is the headquarters hotel again this year. As a previous poster mentioned the Circus Circus, Silver Legacy and Eldorado are all connected via Skywalk. The rooms were nice in the Eldorado; certainly clean and fairly updated. The arena is one (short end) block away and a easy safe walk. Harrah's is a block away but the longer side. If you want to stay where the Big Sky is present I would recommend the Silver Legacy or the Eldorado.

I saw a promo from msu on twitter that the Big Sky conference and Reno officials will be in Bozeman Saturday to promote the tourney and that Silver Legacy will be the official MSU hotel.
