Bobcat men and women defeat Griz in Missoula

Both teams won by significant margins. Chronicle results show many of our athletes as competing for UM. Msubobcats.com has a story and accurate results.

The Montana State Track and Field team swept Montana, with both teams topping the Grizzlies by over 20 points. By a 42-point margin, the women's side flew by the Grizzlies, scoring 120 total team points. The men won by 21 points, with a score of 109. Montana finished with 78 points on the women's side and 88 for the men.
"We continue to improve each week," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "Not only are we improving as a team, but individually all of our athletes are hitting personal bests. I'm exciting to see where we can go with a few weeks left in the season."
After 38 events, the Bobcats found 28 top place finishes, 15 coming from the women's and 13 from the men.
Paige Squire and Carley McCutchen went one-two in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with times of 14.13 and 14.18. Squire found her way to the top again in the 400-meter hurdles, running the race in 1:00.49. Amanda Jaynes finished behind Squire in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.84.
McCutchen ran the 400-meter for the first time this season, winning the event in 55.59 seconds, with Irish Hardarson placing behind her in 55.99. To finish off the sprints for MSU, Chantel Jaeger won the 100-meter dash (11.82), with Josephine Petruska placing third in 12.22.
In the 5000, all four Bobcat women finished in under 18:30.00, with Heather Demorest placing first in 17:18.99. Caroline Hardin also finished in under 17:30.00 behind Demorest in 17:29.44.
Jacqueline Verlanic, Caitlyn Schroeder, Callen Crawford and Brittnee Grimstad took spots two through four in the hammer throw. Verlanic threw a distance of 171-11 and Schroeder a mark of 164-10. Kristi VandeBergh finished second in the shot put, with a distance of 44-11.00.
McCutchen found another first place finish in the long jump with a distance 18-11.75. Casey Teska won the pole vault clearing a height of 13-05.25, while Amy Rovira passed a mark of 12-01.50. Carley Haeffner earned a top finish in the high jump with a mark of 5-05.00.
For the men, Crisitan Soratos earned two top finishes, running the 1500 in 3:50.95 and the 800 in 1:53.72. Michael Asay placed behind Soratos in the 1500 (3:52.97) and won the 5000 in 15:20.81. Jake Turner and Seth Garbett went one-two in the 3000 steeplechase with time of 9:25.22 and 9:34.56.
Mitchell Horning won the 100 in 10.77 and Mason Storm topped the only other competitor in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42). With another top podium finish, Sean Ferriter won the hammer throw (211-05) and Zach Sharp came in behind him with a throw of 192-11.
Ty Bermes and Tanner Gambill continue to dominate in the javelin throw placing first and second. Bermes threw a distance of 213-10 and Gambill a throw of 200-03. With a mark of 54-10.75, Kyle Douglass won the shot put. Alexander Lewis finished first in the long jump, marking 22-11.75 feet. Trevor Simanki and Lewis topped all other triple jump competitors, with distances of 46-08.75 and 44-08. 75. Austin Decker won the pole vault, clearing a height of 15-05.00.
The 'Cats return to Missoula, Mont. next weekend, before returning to Bozeman on May 8 for the Tom Gage Classic.
