So whats the word is Martin gone for good or is it something where he goes home and comes back next year type thing? Anybody have any info. I mean what is with Fish and freshman. That is three possible guys that could have been the face of the team for the next few years. Ugg

You just never know with first year players. MSU women seem to lose their share too!

Yes Martin could have been the face of this team but I would say his health is more important. That isnt Fish's fault a health issue came up, but i respect and support a young man that wants to take care of his health over risking something to play basketball here.

Until recently the turn over in D-1 women's has been much hire than the men's, while it has been for multiple reason, women players have been in the past much more willing to just hang it up and retire. The big difference though is the women get 15 scholarships to work with while the men get only 13. Those two extra scholarships for the women allow them to lose a player late and still field a team of 14 or 13. The men get down to 12-11 and this forces them to activate a player who might be better suited for a redshirt year, or even go into a season with few options at important spots (thin at a particular position) possibly. For the Bobcats men it is pretty hard to imagine losing three potential future all conference players over two year and it not have an impact in 2-3 years.

Another prime recruiting time this week-end with Home coming events happening it is always a good time to get recruits in. I think Binford has filled her quota for this fall, although I could be wrong and the men went from recently having only 1 scholarship to fill to 3 three. The men are looking quite hard at the JC ranks for shooting guard, and with Martin leaving, I am betting they are putting an emphasis on three point shooters. Also hearing a few Foreign big big men's names but one of them recently committed to San Diego. Typically recruits arrive late Thursday (or early Friday)and leave after the football game on Saturday, but I have no names as of right now of any recruits coming in.

There an event in Colorado this week-end called the Rocky Mountain Jamboree in which about 80% of the western NJCCA members will be attending. It is a recruiting/scouting event for the JC's where they will play 6-7 games (each JC) over the week-end two locations. The reason I bring this up is that most of our JC recruits will most likely be in Denver this week end and not in Bozeman.

Maybe I am reading it incorrectly, but Benson O. is playing in Finland? Maybe I am incorrect, but has anybody heard anything on any of the other guys and where they maybe playing?

Bobcats will have 6-4 shooting guard/small forward Mychael Paulo of Williston State JC in this week end for an official visit. Last year For Williston Paulo averaged 15.4 points 3.6 rebounds 1.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game, while shooting 48.8% from the field and 38.1% from three point range. He is originally from Toronto Canada and played high school ball at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School where he averaged 25 points 8 rebounds and 6 assists as a senior. He has a reputation as a 2-way player (plays strong defense as well as offence) and has "Great Length", something Fish is always looking for. He has offers from Montana State and Cleveland State with Northern Arizona showing a lot of interest.

I am also hearing the Bobcats are showing an interest in 6-7 freshman wing David Muenkat also from Toronto who will play this year for Trinidad JC. He is a NCAA qualifier so could sign this year and play 3 years @ the D-1 level. Not 100% sure if he has been offered.

The fall signing period is only about a week and half away (Nov. 14-21st) and we have 3 commitments from SF Caleb Bellach, PG/SG and PF/C Jubrile Belo and that should leave us with two more scholarships to fill. I have been asked a couple times if there is a chance Jared Martin could return to the program once is personal/health issues have been resolved, what I am hearing is most likely not. Most JC team get their season underway this weekend so it will be difficult to get anymore visits in before signing day. According to my notes and verbal commits almost all of the freshman we were looking at this fall have signed elsewhere or removed MSU (or MSU removed them depending on who you talk to) from their list. Of the prospects whom I have heard we have in for visits all but one has committed some where. The one who has not, Trey Anderson, I don't expect him to commit/sign with us. All that said, I am fully aware we could have a visit or two that did not come across my radar. If we do sign anyone else beyond the three keep an eye on a foreign player or a JC. It seems these are the area we have been recruiting hardest the past month.

A couple days ago it was announced on by a couple sources that Montana State had offered Jonah Antonio a 6-5 shooting guard from South Plains JC. Here is a little more info

Jonah Antonio is originally from Perth Australia and played his senior year at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas. Sunrise is a prep school that plays a national schedule and went 27-7 that year. Antonio is a shooter with extraordinary range and received quite a bit of recruiting attention from low majors, before signing with Mount Saint Mary's. His true freshman year at MSM he was the second leading scorer on the team with 11.3 points 3.8 rebounds while shooting 34% from three point range. At the end of last year he decided to transfer and signed with South Plain JC in Texas. This year as a sophomore for South Plains he is averaging 12.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 22 minutes per game. He is shooting 45% from the field and 43% from three point range. Overall 70% of his shots were from 3 point range. As I said before he is the type of player that has to be guarded from half court on. Antonio has current offers from Montana State, Montana, Texas-Rio Grand Valley, UMKC and Little Rock. There are a ton of schools who are listed on Verbal Commits as offers. The first group are the schools who recruited him out of high school. The second list are the group of schools who offered him when he announced his transfer. The 5 schools I listed are schools that I hear are currently offering, but you have to imagine some of the other might still be interested.

Video

BTW: Those of you who follow me on Twitter may have noticed I retweeted a Virginia HS player who announced he was offered by the Bobcats. The original tweet was removed this morning, so someone may have jumped the gun. That said the kid like Antonio, originally hales from Australia.

I have been hearing about the Montana State coaches recruiting 6-3 SG Moses Nuangki of Carlsile high school in Martinsville VA, for about a week now. I have heard conflicting info as to whether the Bobcats have tendered a official offer. Originally from Australia, he is currently averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assist, and 3 steals while shooting 53% from two point range, 30% from three and 46% overall. He is building a reputation as a energy/hustle player who has become an explosive scorer this season. Big strong kid who already has a D-1 body.

Caleb Bellach is getting ready to lead the MCHS Eagles (ahem-my alma mater) into the post-season. The Eagles have been runner's up to Arlee the last two seasons. Arlee is really good again. MCHS is not as deep as they have been, but Bellach is really good and fills a lot of holes. Districts should be an easy two games. The Western C Divisional in Butte could be another story. Anyway-excited to see what this kid does at MSU. If he keeps working hard I think he's got a chance. Go Eagles

It has really been very quiet on new from the recruiting trail. A few player we were recruiting at one time or another have committed to other programs, and I have heard the coaches are scouring the JC ranks as well as some over sea recruits, but not a lot of names. Last night I tweeted about the first recruit I have heard about in about a month that we have offered Rob McClain.

Rob McClain Jr is a 6-5 small forward who currently plays for the United Tribes Technical JC out of Minnesota. McClain is originally from Red Lake High school in Red lake Minnesota. This season he has really picked up his game averaging 23 points (5th in the D-1 NJCAA) 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 2,3 steals a game while shooting 57% from the feild and 39% from 3 point range for UTTC who finished 17-15 this season. He plays in the same league as Bobcat fall signee Mycheal Paulo. UTTC does place many of it players in D-1 programs so McClain has been flying under the radar if you will but is now starting to turn some heads. Before the season he had a few D-2/NAIA offers but thing were pretty quiet. Last night I tweeted that Montana State just recently offered to go with offers he already had from Tex Rio Grand, & Bryant. Since then I have heard that North Alabama and Campbell have offered him and Cal State Fullerton, Cornell, Loyola Chicago and UC Santa Barbara are showing strong interest.

Looks like Binford landed a good one. 6'3"-handles and shoots like a guard. Intriguing.

Thanks for posting, however, it doesn't look like she's a men's team recruit

Today is the first day of the spring signing period. Sprinkles team has at least 2 scholarships to offer and Binford has one scholarship that recently opened up. I am expecting Sprinkle to sign one prospect right out of the gate. Later this month I would expect 1 or 2 additional signees. One thing I have consistently heard, is that Sprinkle would really like to another player who can score the ball, so it will be interesting to see who he can find late to help us out in that regard.

Binford has had he 2019 recruiting class wrapped up since last fall when she signed 3 to fill all of her scholarships for 2019. As happens more times than not she just had another scholarship open up this week. Binford has the luxury of having 15 scholarships to offer as opposed to the men who have only 13. I would expect Binford to look very hard at the NCAA transfer Portal for possible D-1 transfers who could help right-a-way or sit out a year before impacting the program. She could sign a high school players if she finds one late who she really likes, like she did with Braxton, 3 or so years ago. Binford does not sign players just to fill scholarships, she is very comfortable leaving a scholarship open and using it the following year if she feels the players available late in the season are not to her liking. Binford already has three impact players committed for next year, a dynamic 5-9 combo guard, a sweet shooting 6-1 guard/forward and a 6-3 very mobile center, so adding another scholarship to that class and taking all summer and fall to fill it might seem attractive.

Absolutely ridiculous that Chrishon Dixon and Brody Grebe didn't make this list. Widely regarded as Top 5 players in the state. They literally just picked AA kids and then chose Caleb (which was likely boosted by him signing with MSU).
