PlutoTV Experiences/Debugging

Post by Bobcat4Ever » Thu Feb 01, 2018 8:03 pm

I received an email from Bethany Cordell this afternoon. They are perplexed by the PlutoTV problems but are monitoring both inside and outside the building and are in contact with the PlutoTV production technicians.

Please use this thread if you'd like to post your PlutoTV experiences tonight to assist in debugging. You could say which game, approximate location, network provider, equipment etc. — whatever comes to mind that might be useful. They cannot figure out why some viewers have "unwatchable" and others have "no problems."

Thanks.

I'm watching the men at UND via watchbigsky.com, in Bozeman with Spectrum Internet. About every 5 minutes the picture freezes solid and I need to restart. In between it's perfect.

I'm watching the men at North Dakota in Cody WY on TCT Internet.
About every 5 seconds the action freezes for a few seconds and then continues. This will continue for a minute or so when the play jumps ahead of all the "missed" time. I rebooted my laptop after it was particularly bad at the beginning of the second half and missed what sounds like the best basketball of the season....

Only watched the second half, now at 14:43, and so far so good. MUCH, MUCH better than last week.
Whoops, just now pixelated for a second.

Went off at about 13 minute mark, only for maybe 5 seconds.

Switched to PlutoTV after watchbigsky became unwatchable, very good feed.

Had the best night I've ever had with this. No problems with the women's game. A few short halts with the men's game.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Something went right, that's for sure. I have zero issues to report for the women's game. In the past, even when the picture was not disintegrating, the resolution was pretty poor — SD at best. Tonight the picture was solid, end to end, and the throughput was allowing higher resolution. Looked as good as the other schools.

I hope they know what they fixed, so this success can be replicated.

Well done tonight, Bethany and crew. Go, Cats!

Had a good evening with this on Thursday. Today -not so good. Numerous halts, black screens, and nothing. Hope it gets better.

Can you please give more information on how you're watching the stream? Through WatchBigSky or PlutoTV app? What device are you using?

I've had no problems. Might help some people that have problems to do a speed test. I had more problems when I had crappy internet.

Watching on Pluto. Has been much better. Not perfect, only a couple of pixelating issues, has paused a couple of times... In fact just paused at about the 2:30 spot. And pausing now maybe 5 times.
Switching between both games.

I had major issues with the women's game from MSU today, bordering on unwatchable. My download speed was running ~34 Mbps. All other streaming services were working fine.

WatchBigSky, Spectrum Internet/Wifi, laptop - During the first half of both games I was switching back and forth and having problems with both games. Things started clearing up toward the end of the first half of the men's game. I ended up watching only the women's game. The second half was much better - just some pixilating every now and then.

This is a fine rabbit hole to run down....
By just looking at the replay games on both Pluto and Watch Big Sky ....
Other games at other venues provided by the home teams are Great, the replays show they don't have 20% of the problems in production that MSU has. This shows its the provider of the production NOT the service sending it out. It's not Pluto, it's not a router, bandwidth, or the speed a person is watching from....
The problem is 100% the quality of the product provided to Pluto/Watch Big Sky by the HOME TEAM.
