WBB at Northern Colorado

We blew a big first half lead and end up losing 66-58. True freshman Squires led us with 17-she's from Colorado. Probably not a surprise as she didn't have a lot of minutes at North Dakota whereas our starters had to have heavy legs from that OT game. That sure would have been a nice one to have-for making a run at a 2nd regular season title. Now UNC has a 2 game lead on us. But still, a very productive road trip-which is probably the toughest in the league this season.

Next game is Thursday night in Bozeman vs Sac. State. Don't miss this one. Last year MSU set a school record scoring 110 points (or something like that). Sac presses the whole game, launches threes from everywhere, and does hockey style line changes. I don't know what they got this season, but I assume they're running the same system. Last year's game was the most entertaining basketball game of the season-men or women.

Too bad to let that one get away. We really shot ourselves in the paws more than usual. Looked like a winnable game with our typical performance. Too bad it's our only game against UNC this year. No chance to even it up.

Two stats jump out of that box score.

Turnovers. 28 for the Bobcats. 16 for the Bears. Watching on tv it looked like a lot of unforced errors.

Personal fouls. 25 for the Bobcats. 9 for the Bears. Really???

Getting a split on the road is still good

UNC didn't have a foul well into the 2nd quarter. They also have only played NAU and SUU on the road. They are due...haven't played EWU, UND, ISU, or Idaho yet! But they have to play many of them twice. We need to beat EWU and Idaho on the road ....then we will be in good shape!

Yep - MSU has had a pretty brutal early schedule with UND, UNC, ISU, and Weber on the road and EWU and Idaho at home. All of those opponents are in the top 8, and MSU has given 2nd & 3rd place UND and EWU their only losses so far in conference play. MSU is in great shape to get a top 4 seed for the conference tourney and contend for a regular season championship once the schedule gets a bit easier and the other top teams start playing each other.
