Cat Legend Craig Finberg

Post by catpound » Tue Mar 17, 2009 10:34 am

As everyone knows Cat great Craig Finberg is battling life threatening pancreatic cancer. I just have to comment on the State A Championship game between Dillon and Columbia Falls. Both teams and towns dedicated the championship game to "Finny" and the game did not disappoint. I was at the game and what a truly amazing sight to behold watching the true sportsmanship between both teams to come together for Finny. Finny is a legendary player from Columbia Falls and MSU, where he is still in the record books for his accomplishments and a legendary coach/teacher at Dillon. Finny's brother, Cary, is also a great coach at their alma mater, Columbia Falls, and as well as Finny, a real class act. Terry Thomas, Dillon's legendary coach both in football and basketball, was Finny's assistant in basketball at Dillon for around 20 years before taking the reins in basketball. The championship night was an emotional night for the Finberg family and for both towns that he has impacted greatly. Both teams played with alot of heart and class, just like Finny, and produced a great championship game. Dillon won the game, as everyone knows, but not before C Falls battled back from a 10 point deficit in the 2nd half to take a 4 point lead with 2-3 minutes left in the game. Dillon was able to prevail, but both teams left their hearts on the court for their hero, Craig Finberg. After the game the Dillon players and students were on the court and got all of the fans from both teams to stand as one in a "Finny, Finny, Finny!" cheer that was truly something to behold. The actions of both towns, players, students, coaches, etc. shows what an amazing impact Finny has had on everyone he comes in contact with. As MSU fans we all know what positive impacts Finny has had, not only in the basketball world, but also as a human being, teacher and coach. He truly is one of the greatest Bobcats of them all!!

My buddy reffed that game. He said it was about as moving a moment he's ever seen.
