I think the Montana all class record is like 10.55.
Damien Nelson from CMR ran a 10.5 in 2018 (or maybe 2017?). I think prior to that the all-class record was 10.67 by Chris Wilson. Class A record is 10.74, B is 10.8-something, C is 10.9-something. Point is, 10.5 was freakishly fast for Montana, and MSU has 2 guys coming in this class that are faster than the guy who is by far the fastest from Montana.

Looks like it's Damien Nelson from CMR at 10.50.

So what it is with CMR? Nelson, Wilson, Karl Tucker II... wasn't he a speedster too? I also think I've forgetting someone else from CMR that might hold a state record.

Reggie Barnett was a speedster back in the day as I recall. Mike Guon (GFH) was a great 400 or 800 guy.
When Malmstrom was running full tilt it seems like both schools were loaded in most sports.

Damien Nelson has the State Record at 10.50, but doesn’t have the school record as Chris Wilson owns that at 10.48 which he set at Divisionals in 2009. State was in Flathead that year & we got nothing but headwinds off the lake that weekend and was unable to run as quickly.

I remember that. But he shattered the 200m the next day or day before as I recall.

Base kids go to CMR. And having gone to CMR not alot of base kids really played sports.

I think coaching was a huge part. CMR football since Jack Johnson is hit or miss. It was always hit with him as the coach. Mike McClean was hit always as the boys basketball coach. Running at CMR was Brady. Coaching at GFHS has traditionally not been great. It hasn't been what it was at CMR for a while.

If the kids lived on base in military housing they went to CMR. Married personnel that are offered housing allowance can live wherever they want to.

Through six meets Boyd hasn’t been slower than 10.73. His best time is now 10.48. He’s also run a 10.49, 10.52, 10.66, 10.7 and 10.73.

Sheesh! The Cats may be able to put together a Big Sky 400 meter relay track team championship just by using the football teams DBs.

Correct. But then they're not a "base kid" 8)

Kino Dettrick was a military kid(I think) that went to GFHS. Decent player for the Bison. His son plays for the griz. So yes not all air force kids go to CMR.

🤣
Maybe, but That looks like one of the Maher brothers. Boyd was a downhiller and a fan favorite for his reckless, all out style.

It’d be interesting to look up the HS 100m times for other players. I think Mellott was in the low 11s. Taco Dowler as well.

Taco ran a 10.92. Tommy's senior track season was cancelled due to Covid, but his best time I'm pretty sure was 11.25. Grebe's best time officially was 11.15.

Okay, so Boyds fastest time in the 100M this year was 10.48. Meanwhile, Ross ran a 10.55 100M and McMillan ran a 21.11 200m. The MSU track team record in the 200m is 21.10.

I think those times kind of hurt the narrative that fast kids don't go FCS. The DB room certainly won't be hurting for speed in the next few years.

I don’t remember a time we’ve ever had recruits this fast except for Chris Wilson. And these guys are a lot better than he was at football.
