Moving on to Norfolk State...
Posted this in the Offense thread, but figured it’s time to move on to Norfolk St.:
Again people are overestimating how well MSU will do.
Norfolk is a lot better than Wagner. Both losses are to FBS teams. They’ve held both under 200 passing. Coastal Carolina to 14-30-0, 120 yards 1td. CC beat Kansas. Norfolk’s pass D against CC was better than Kansas’s.
Norfolk only lostb24-21 to Old Dominion. Trailed CC 19-7 at halftime.
It’s unlikely that Bauman, or anyone else, will light up Norfolk.

Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
They gave up 400 yards rushing and 46 points to CC. I'm pretty sure they were taking what they could get. I'd be shocked if we come out with a clear mission to pass the ball that they will be able to stop us. *Oh and they only had 75 yards passing and 42 yards rushing. I hardly think they are juggernauts or have a player that could carry Fulse's jockstrap.
^and 1 guy was 3-3 for 30 yards and a td. They had 4 guys in throwing passes.

"They’ve held both under 200 passing"
They don't need to do that against us, we're perfectly capable of keeping our passing yards under 200 by ourselves.

Exactly. Without him they’re 11-27-0, 90 yards.technoCat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:06 amThey gave up 400 yards rushing and 46 points to CC. I'm pretty sure they were taking what they could get. Fred Payton was the starter. He went 7-19-0 65 yards and got benched.
Suffice to say Norfolk has a good pass defense. Nothing like Wagner.

They did give up 500 yards (300 pass) and 21 points to a DII school at home.

Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
I'm sure Norfolk has some strengths, sounds like maybe on defense. But the fact is, they are not ranked in any poll including the "also receiving votes" sections, and granted its early and not much data but they are currently #232 out of 257 Division 1 football teams on Sangarin.
Throw in the fact that MSU is at home, and the Cats should win this one going away.

Right, but most of that was in the second half and a lot it after they were up 44-7. They only gave up 146 yards prior to the last drive of the first half. The Big Meowski wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:36 amThey did give up 500 yards (300 pass) and 21 points to a DII school at home.

Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
146 yards in a half isn't that impressive. Its not bad but not "shut down" defense. I get what you're trying to do but if we lose to this team or if its even close, then this is not the team we thought it was and it won't just be because of Bauman.iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:57 amRight, but most of that was in the second half and a lot it after they were up 44-7. Kansas just beat Boston College 48-24.
I think MSU will beat Norfolk, but I don’t expect it will be anything like the Wagner game last year where Rovig looked good.

I expect to see a dominant Bobcat victory with 6 or less penalties.

Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
Why do you discount the last drive of 72 yards in the 2nd quarter by Virginia State? That gets them to almost the 50% mark of the total yards? I’m mostly having fun with you here, but that is a bit of a spin on the numbers don’t you think?iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 9:57 amRight, but most of that was in the second half and a lot it after they were up 44-7. Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
Just giving everyone a heads up that this game probably isn’t going to be a walk in the park. I think the defense will do well and the run game. I don’t think any of the MSU quarterbacks will carve them up like Rovig did against Wagner last year. Wagner’s pass D sucked. Norfolk’s does not.technoCat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:01 am146 yards in a half isn't that impressive. Its not bad but not "shut down" defense. I didn’t discount it. But that’s where the D2 team started playing better even though they fumbled it. The first 27 plays 146 yards (5.4) the next 49 plays 368 yards (7.5). They did pretty good after they got way behind. The Big Meowski wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:18 amWhy do you discount the last drive of 72 yards in the 2nd quarter by Virginia State? Thanks, I get where you are coming from. I wasn’t trying to call you out or anything. I still feel like this game will be a good opportunity for the O to get a head of steam going into conference play.iaafan wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:34 amI didn’t discount it. Re: Moving on to Norfolk State...
No problem. I started this thread because I saw a lot of people thinking Bauman needs to light it up like Robin vs Wagner and talking easy win. He could and it could be, but the way Norfolk has played doesn’t lend itself to that happening. I fully expect the game will be close at halftime. MSU is a very good second half team. Easily could won 33-14 vs WIU. Be a lot less whining and most everyone would be saying “Bauman did just what we needed. Made a few plays and didn’t turn it over.”The Big Meowski wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2019 10:47 amThanks, I get where you are coming from. I wasn’t trying to call you out or anything. Win big at home and win ugly on the road. It all counts the same. Bozeman continues to be a very tough place for our guests, and I don't see this weekend being an exception.

This game is 100% a trap game. I hope we survive. Their Qb is mobile and really good and they have a helluva defense. I really don't like this game.

Karl Tucker is injured so it appears Shane Perry is next man up on the depth chart. Only change I see.
