Western Illinois Attendance
These guys really struggle at the gate. The enrollment is around 9,000. Mcolmb,Ill has a population of around 19,500. Big towns within driving distance but nobody cares. They have decent stadium..Weber state like, holding 16,368. They went 6-5 in 2016 and drew an average of 4,910. They went 8-4 the next year drawing an average 3,477. They had a good team, but not really successful team last year and drew 3,179. Even some of their most loyal backers are saying they belong in Division II where they can provide a program with the same or better results and cut down expenses.
Well, if nobody wants to come you can't stop them. Certainly this kind of stuff gets in the guys heads. If they get 5,500 for the Bobcat game then it is a soft "win" for them.

It's actually Macomb. We are going to the game. I looked at the attendance and figure it will be easy to get tickets.

Do like I do at the Northern Colorado games! Sit right in the middle of the Booster section with my Bobcat Gear and cheer louder than their crowd does.

I did that once at Eastern when Denarius was the QB. Lots of dirty looks. Can't do it anymore over there, at least when we play.Mr Lisle wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:16 pmI like it.Montanabob wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 8:14 pmDo like I do at the Northern Colorado games! Re: Western Illinois Attendance
How about some Facebook Live, and give us a Bobcat's view of the stadium and game day experience, if there is any?
I always remember what Sonny Holland said about a Northern Colorado game. Something to the effect that he walked across the field 30 minutes before the game, saw a sleeping dog, and said he, Sonny (although probably the dog, too), had no idea that a Division I football game was in the offing.
It's a dangerous atmosphere, a vacuum is.

Re: Western Illinois Attendance
Okay guys and gals...attendance can be interesting for us to discuss, but in reality, the ones that come won't be rooting for the Cats, so IF that is an issue in our winning, then we have bigger problems and this isn't our year. Carry on...

The entire East side of Hanson Field is the "Visitors" side. Plenty of seating there. This will be the "far side of the field" as you watch the game on ESPN+.
The Western Marching Band does sit in the middle of the East side stands. But everything else on that side of the field is General Admission.
The Western fans will be sitting on the west side of Hanson Field. This will be the "near side of the field" as you watch the game on ESPN+.

Technically the south end of the east side is the "Visitors section": https://goleathernecks.com/common/contr ... ield_2.jpgLeathernecks wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 11:43 amThe entire East side of Hanson Field is the "Visitors" side. If attendance is actually decent, you'll see WIU fans on both sides of the band (I usually sit just to the south of the band), although recently the visitors have essentially migrated "north" to be in that area too.

Yeah I saw that Leathernecks. But...there are as many different answers as you want to choose. One, when asked "How many students are there ..says 9,441.Leathernecks wrote: ↑Fri Sep 13, 2019 10:53 amWestern's full-time undergraduate enrollment at Macomb is 4,343.
Another gives you totals by class, spring 2019 and sums up at 6,113
A third one says spring 2019 says enrollment is trending down and reports 5,642
Then there's yours and there's mine, and honestly, there's a few more.
So, being curious by nature, I took the 5:59 virtual tour to see if I could get a sense of the size/enrollment. It is a beautiful campus. My guide was WIU President Jack Thomas himself who then handed me off to students to thoroughly view the campus. I was impressed right away with the first student resident hall I saw...one of nine. This must have been at least 12 stories. Sherman Hall is a thing of beauty.....you get the point, I got around. We got to Hanson Field, site of tomorrows game and they showed off the 900 pound statue of your bulldog mascot. It's a 16,000 seat stadium! so the old grads either had serious growth expections or it was built to accomodate a fairly good size school. I believe what I saw is a fairly good size school. But, as catsrback76 or someone indicated, it really doesn't matter.
I thank you tho' for checking in. My golf game got cancelled and I had some time on my hands.

Re: Western Illinois Attendance
Western operates a second campus in the Quad Cities (Moline, IL). That is 75 miles north of Macomb. The enrollment in the QC is approx 1,100.
The QC campus is primarily a commuter campus and has no Athletics.
The Macomb campus peaked at 13,000. Enrollment has been on a steady decline for the last 8 years.

South Dakota is renovating their 40-year old Dakota Dome. For this season, there is only sitting on one side of the field. That reduces the seating capacity for this year to approx 5,000. It will be 9,000 once the renovation has been completed.

Re: Western Illinois Attendance
Sitting in that stadium the contrast to is is incredible. The stadium reminds you of sac st. Only prettier. There is no advertising, none. They did not have video replay. You could actually just walk in and out if you wanted. Almost no energy. It really felt like a high school.
