That's not why.
The coaches probably just don't think he's on the same level as Bauman/Rovig.

Just going off the roster

You think the staff that started Chris Murray as a freshman is holding Beltran back for being 6'0" 180?
I was listening to a Choate interview the other day where he spoke to that situation.catatac wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 10:23 pmYes, because Rovig broke his foot.utucats wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:37 pmThat stat line is consistent with what we seen out of Rovig. Lots of people want to gloss over the fact that Rovig’s big game was against a subpar defense. He doesn’t have the luxury of playing against a D like that in fall camp. Having said that, if he is our best option then fine, play him but anyone being reasonable should be changing their mind a little just based on the fact that he had all the indicators pointing toward him and he is no longer the odds on favorite to win the job. That should be concerning.RobertoGato wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 9:32 pmShould he be excited about 3/7 for 14 yards and a pick? We don't know where his production came from, but if he was sharp and it was with the one's... maybe?
Maybe after this they'll give him Rovig's reps, and make it a Bauman/Beltran battle.
There is a reason TA played QB last year.
I'm not saying that 3" and 25 pounds and he would be the "guy" however his size is a major factor, if things are close they will take more size every time.RobertoGato wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 2:34 pmYou think the staff that started Chris Murray as a freshman is holding Beltran back for being 6'0" 180?

If all else is equal, sure you take the bigger player. Kasiez before thelan.
Interesting if correct. Where did this depth chart come from? If it is correct as of today are Thelan and Knight so far behind that it couldn't change as the season moves on?catatac wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 5:48 pmThis.Montanabob wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 4:59 pmNot happeningLong Time Cat wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 4:58 pmSince Murray started as a true freshman halfway through the season, what are the odds that one of the true freshman we have on the team now is playing by mid season? The list is one poster’s ranking. As for the freshman, I would not even consider them as possible candidates for the year. Just too young and not enough time in the system. They would have to be a freak athlete like Murray or Troy and those are very rare.Long Time Cat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:22 amInteresting if correct. Where did this depth chart come from? Honest question, if we had the next freshman phenomenon on our roster(examples: lulay, Denarius McGhee) does Choate have the ability to recognize it. Choate is a great coach, happy as hell to have him. However, I don't think he can recognize a good qb if he hit him in the ass from 50 yards out. Have a feeling that Choate would choose a qb that has a year or two in the system over someone that is flat out gifted. If the next Lulay is on our roster, I don't think he would be given a chance. What do you all think?Cataholic wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:26 amThe list is one poster’s ranking. As for the freshman, I would not even consider them as possible candidates for the year. I think you are creating your own narrative. There isn't any evidence of this.bobcatfan123 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 10:53 amHonest question, if we had the next freshman phenomenon on our roster(examples: lulay, Denarius McGhee) does Choate have the ability to recognize it.
