Ifanse against Texas Tech Prediction

Post by Rich K » Fri Aug 02, 2019 11:09 am

Today's by the numbers points out that Cody Kirk is the latest of 3 Bobcats to have 100+ yards rushing against an FBS school, 107 yards against SMU in 2013. He's in great company with David Mayfield and Ryan Johnson.

My prediction is Ifanse becomes the 4th Bobcat to rush for over 100 against an FBS school.

Even bolder, I'm predicting him to be the FCS player of the week in week one. I think he's going to have one heck of a year :)

29 – Carries by Cody Kirk against Southern Methodist in 2013
The Bobcats couldn't quite close the deal on that steamy night in Dallas, when SMU overcame a fourth-quarter MSU lead to snatch a 31-30 win. Cody Kirk was part and parcel of Montana State's near upset, with his 29 carries accounting for 107 yards. Kirk got the Bobcats on the board with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter to give the Cats an 8-2 lead, the closed MSU's scoring with a 12-yard run with 9:28 to play in the third quarter to push Montana State's lead to 30-19. Two SMU field goals gave the Mustangs a chance, and Darius Joseph caught a four-yard pass from Gail Gilbert with 12 seconds remaining to give SMU its 31-30 margin of victory. Kirk's 107-yard rushing performance is the most recent by a Bobcat against an FBS squad, and one of only three such achievements by a Bobcat this century (David Mayfield vs. Wyoming in 2003, Ryan Johnson vs. Washington State in 2001).

My bet is two over 100 yards against TT.. Ifanse and Andersen.
Also over 200 yards in passing in a very close game.

The Matadors? Are they not the Red Raiders any more?

I'm not sure what kind of front line TTU has, but if our guys can open some holes for Ifanse I can see him hitting 200.

The Matador is the Official Gameday Retailer of the Texas Tech Athletic Department. They are still the Red Raiders.

I like people's optimism. This will be a very challenging football game. ESPN has a matchup predictor on the game that currently
gives Texas Tech a 96.9% probability of winning. Remember that Eastern Washington went down there a couple of years ago and got their head handed to them 56-10. Their record wasn't great last year but they were competitive with some top ranked FBS schools. I would say that the only way Ifanse gets 100 yards is if we have some success throwing the ball. If they are able to stack the box, any yardage will be at a premium. This will be the toughest opponent we'll face all year. I'm not saying it won't happen, I hope it does but the Cats will need to be ready and hitting on all cylinders.

He is not going to get to 200 yards versus Texas Tech. Only two teams last year ran for +200 on TT. Yes, it is the pass-happy Big 12, however, we have a stronger chance of passing for over 200 yards than rushing for a team total of 200. Ifanse will not rush for over 200 yards. He will rush for 80 yards at best.

I agree I don't see him getting 200 yards. That is a ton against any team. But I think I'd take the over on 80 yards all day long

Yeah, you guys are probably right. 200 yards is a tall order. I like the guys and think he’s got the goods. 😀😀

I don’t know what to think of this game. I have read articles saying this could be one of the fcs/fbs upset games..... then I have read articles with people saying Texas tech could be a dark horse to make the FBS playoffs.... :-k

That’s the best approach imo. I just let these FBS games happen. Sometimes they go well, sometimes not. Either way you just need to move on to the next game and try not to read too much into it.

This is an extremely bold prediction. TT traditionally airs it out in fast-paced, high scoring affairs. Especially in Lubbock. Granted they have an entire new staff now.

If Ifanse gets 100 yards rushing it would likely be amassed during garbage time in the 4th qtr of a blowout, which I hope is not the case.

I would say 100 all-purpose yards is what we'd need from Ifanse in this game.
