There are a couple of other FCS teams I will be initially following this year. One is Eastern Kentucky. In my years..since NAIA days, of following the Cats Eastern Kentucky had been a real contender for years. Like NDSU and Delaware and Georgia Southern, and Troy State they were right there every year. But the last several years not so much. They really look like they have it back together this year. Lots of experience everywhere. It's fun to see a program fight it's way back.
The other, you may not like, is the Southlands Conference Lamar. This is a team that won there final six games last year and win the conference. They were knocked off last year in the first playoff round by No. Iowa. They bring in a strange mix of 40 lettermen and 21 transfers....some from places like Washington State, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Illinois. Leading them this year should be quarterback Jordan Hoy. Last year as a backup he came in late when the starter went down to lead a drive to preserve a win over ranked Sam Houston. The following week he was the SLC player of the week passing 11-16 for 72 yards and rushing 21 for 225, including a 68 yard touchdown. Then he guided a win over ranked Central Arkansas passing 15-25, 346 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Not likely, but it would be great to see the Bobcats and Lamar in the playoffs. This is not intended to be a rally for Hoy. This is a case of "once a Bobcat not always a Bobcat" Pretty sure he feels that way. When he left Bozeman he played at a California JC then transferred to Old Dominion before heading for his home state of Texas. You will not find the Bobcats mentioned anywhere in any of his bios.

Jordan is going to have his hands full competing with a quarterback transfer - may not be the starter. He is a run first guy and had many games where he didn't post 100 yards passing. He does have some talent though.

I don't know about "run first". His year at Fullerton JC he threw 246 for 3,434 yards and 37 TD's. Rushed 131 for 712 yards.
Sophmore Tennessee transfer Will McBride did put up huge numbers in high school....one of the top recruits in the country. He apparently burned his redshirt last year. Lamar HC has a history of going with experience. They had a fine senior QB last year who was injured half-way through the season. Hoy came in and actually outplayed him, but when the senior healed up he went back in.
