MSU’s new number “41” tradition

Pretty cool idea. Montana is the 41st state and MSU has had some great players with this number. It will, ala UM with #37, go to a Montana player.

Braydon Konkol will don number 41 this year.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Sorry, but this is a terrible idea. UM already has this special number "tradition", let them have it. Let's differentiate ourselves from the dumpster fire community college 200 miles west of Bozeman, not emulate them. Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? NOT impressed... :hot:

Sounds like it was Choate’s. Sorry you don’t like it and I sure hope it doesn’t ruin your Sunday. It’s a beautiful day today.

Many college football programs have traditions related to jersey numbers in one way or another. It's not a special UM thing. If Choate believes it will help promote a legacy of strong culture in the locker room, why not?

It actually pisses me off we didn't do this years ago. Are we not allowed to have our own number tradition? Or is that also only a Griz thing.

I've liked the idea from when it was first floated - its our own and has nothing to do with um-besides we already own 37.
Also love the idea of Konkol flying the flag to begin with!

Dang! I won a MSU jersey raffle once and I had a choice between #41 and another number. I didn't take 41. ](*,)

I've got a #41 cat-griz 2010 game worn jersey. I bought it in 2011 because of Daly but I think it was Moeakeola who wore it in 2010. That was Daly's year off.

I really like the idea, and with the #37 drubbing we handed to the grizz, I had to go look at their 41 to make sure they weren't going to return the favor somehow. And...Peppenger!

I love the 41 idea. Coach is also flying in at least one former player this summer, to talk to the team during camp.

When I saw Tomcats headline I thought it was all about the Bobcat's legendary 1941 football team. I'm all over that!! Nobody except Georgia Tech and the Academies have that tradition capability.

Was that team mentioned in the story? Another great reason for that number. It has a lot of meaning to it.

Here’s what we’re talking about:

With everything we do and everything we don’t do, what the griz think should be the last thing on our mind.
