Right but you can't play a 12th or 13th regular season game to play a championship game.
I've never really understood the rationale behind allowing a 12th game only in certain years when the calendar allows it. Why not just adjust the scheduling window so that you can play 12 games every season? 9 conference games, with only 1 rival, 2 non conference games, 11 total regular season games, and a 12th game for the inter-division "playoff" games on the last week of the season.
