Since it’s the off-season I thought a thread on this might help pass the time.

1) Joe Roberts INT return vs Rhode Island in 1984 semis.
2) The Stuff vs UM in 2018
3) Blocked XP vs New Hampshire to win first round playoff game in 1976.
4) Jesse Jones screen pass and run from Kelly Bradley vs Boise State in 1984.
5) Steven Bethley’s blocked XP vs New Hampshire in second round playoff game in 2011.
6) Travis Lulay to Junior Adams TD pass vs UM in 2002.
7) Onside kick recovered by Corey Smith vs NAU in 2003.
8- Paul Schafer game-winning TD run vs UM with 12 seconds to go in 1968.
9) Corey Smith game-opening KO return for TD vs UM in 2003.
10) Mike Rider tackles WSU’s Bo Bolen on 4th-goal from 1 w/20 seconds to go in 2009.

As much as I enjoyed The Stuff and it was a great play. I think that I would move #6 up to 2nd just because of the significance of ending the streak.

I agree! That 2002 play and game was much more important for the rejuvenation of the MSU football program than last year's win when they were already coming off a two game win streak. In 2002, it had been almost 20 years since MSU's last playoff appearance and win over UM and that play was a huge part of both of those streaks ending. Speaking of the 2002 season, another critical play was the face mask penalty by Sac State on the last play of regulation that gave MSU an untimed play and allowed them to turn a loss into a win with a game-winning field goal. Without that win earlier in the year, the UM game would've been played to end the streak only with no conference championship or playoff implications.

I’ve got two plays that won games. Both against ISU. Not sure of the years though.

Steinbeisser pick 6 at ISU for the game winning TD as ISU simply had to run out the clock. (I’m good friends with the FB from that team, and I raz him all the time about it)

Kevin Lundstrom makes a tackle in the backfield at the 3 yard line on the last play of the game to save the win in Bozeman also against ISU.

I always thought a turning point for Ash coached teams was a 4th down goal line stand vs Weber in Ogden.

The Les Lenniger interception would be my number 2 (Joe Roberts interception would be one). Last conference game of the year. We are tied with NAU for first. Winner gets the playoff bid. We are up 10-0 (I believe) and NAU has the ball on about our 40 with a few seconds left. They throw into the end zone incomplete but a PI call gives them one more (untimed) play from our 25. Les breaks through, blocks the throw, catches it and rumbles (Les ran about a 5.2 40) 70 yards for the score changing the whole dynamics of the game. The NAU QB caught Les at about the 5 and they both fell into the end zone. We went to the playoffs because of that play.

I'm not familiar with the play. How long ago was it?

And were we up by 10 with a few seconds left in the game? Doesn't seem like a very big play then. Or was it right before halftime?

Just before half. The played changed the momentum of the game. I believe it was 78. I was there but my mind is not what it used to be.

It couldn't have been 1978. That was the year we started out 7-0 and were ranked #1 in the nation, and then NAU came into Bozeman and rolled us something like 43-22. The next week we got upset by the Griz 24-8, which knocked us out of the playoffs. We finished 8-2 but only 4 teams made the playoffs back then, and NAU won the BSC championship, so we got left out. The NC seasons of 1976 and 1984 were the only years we made the playoffs during the 70's or 80's, so the game you're thinking of must have been 1976. In 1979 we were the official BSC champs and beat NAU, but our record was only 6-4. Again, with only 4 teams making the playoffs, there were no auto bids, and our record wasn't good enough to make the field. BSU was 7-0 in conference, to our 6-1, and they gave us our only BSC loss, but they were ineligible for the conference championship because of NCAA violations.

I thought that (2002) was one of the best games. Top 3 at least. I wouldn’t put that play over The Stuff. As much as you can win a game with one play The Stuff was it. I think the Adams TD came with lots of time remaining and the defense made it hold up.

Daly had 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery on the last two plays by Stony, but they were 70+ yards away and down 6.

It always amazes people when they find out who ran him down and caught him at the 12. That had to have been one of the very best football games I've ever watched, from the Bobcat perspective anyway...

I’m not old enough to remember Schafers play and I’m not sure if I’m a punk, but I can’t see how any play against the griz can beat Joe Roberts interception for greatest plays in Bobcat history. Roberts interception occurred when the Cats were, in all likelihood, going down to defeat. Joe’s improbable interception and return won the playoff game and put the Cats in the national championship.
Without having seen Schafers play, I will give you number two on the list though.

Sometime in the third quarter of the 68 game, the staples they used to keep Paul's dislocated shoulder somewhat in place began coming out...and that was the 58th carry by Paul in that one game. Even though the next tackle saved the lead as the clock ran out, I stiil maintain that one yard run as the best ever.
